Omar has been battling with a serious thermal injury for several weeks now. It runs almost the entire length of his back and the tip of his casque. A couple weeks ago, part of the eschar on his back came off and exposed essentially the muscles and tendons on his spine. He went to the vet for this and I have been using gentimicin spray and also putting Neosporin on the open area. I know it is painful because he pulls away from the Q-tip. Yesterday I was cleaning his body (as the Neosporin sort of migrates down his sides) and he struggles when I do this. So during this process yesterday, he started closing his eyes. Today when I got him out he immediately closed his eyes and was very still while I tended to his burns. I thought I read somewhere on the forums that chams will close their eyes if stressed.
He has otherwise been active and I have not noticed him doing this in his cage. He did not eat much yesterday but I recall that when the eschar ripped off his back he did not eat for a day or so either. He has a vet appointment for Monday. I am really worried about him, especially after what happened to Clouseau. I was very careful about hand washing in between lizards too but I am afraid he is losing this battle and the stress is taking a toll.
