Lathis Chameleon Enthusiast Oct 8, 2016 #3 If this for a UVB bulb, yes, you must remove the clear plastic cover. Otherwise, the plastic blocks out nearly all of the UV, making it useless. If it is just for ambient light, you can leave the plastic cover on.
