Showering chameleon help?

I've been doing research about showering chameleons. A lot of people say that chameleons love warm showers. I heard that when you shower the chameleon on the plant then he will drink it off the leaves??? Is shower water dirty or safe? I heard that this drastically changes a chameleons personality... Like it's not as aggressive or grumpy as before. If I start doing this then what type of plant should I use? When can I start doing this? My Cham is about 2-3 months old. Oh and can you use a shower to clean plants? :D

I shower mine all the time. If you start them young they learn to handle it better. 15 to 20 minutes is long enough. But its not a "warm" shower. Make it feel the same as the room temp. You will tell if its too hot or cold because they wont like it. Of course they may do this anyway. But in time they will like it. I dont use a plant I use a peice of wood (drift wood type) and they sit on it. Yes you can wash the plants in the shower. But not while the cham is in there. And remember dont point the shower right on them. It needs to be a indirect mist.
Here is a old photo of Ranger in the shower.

I think ima try that.... I've heard of ppl showering them also, im scared I am going to stress mine out.....

All mine love it. But you have to try it a few times. But yes they may freck the first few times. But its just like getting a dog used to a bath. It takes time. And start out slow. Just give them a few minute shower. Then you can increase it over time.

How old was he when you started to put him in the shower?

One of my guys used to act like I was throwing acid when I first started this. He totally likes it now though.

But is it safe for chameleons to drink shower water? Oh and should i start off taking him outside for the sun or start him in a warm shower?

I take the ficus from their cages and place it in the shower. I suspend my mist nozzle overhead. I fill a twenty gallon container with warm water (it is important to cover this if it is left near the chameleons). I run this overnight about twice a week. I work with montane species. They usually respond by "sprinting" for cover then they settle into their "rain coma." In the morning they seem pretty well hydrated. Of course this is in addition to misting and dripping their cage.

Do you drink your tap water? If so than it should be fine. But some peoples "city" water is nasty. But mine drink the water and they are fine. My water is a co-op well water. So its not bad. Usally the problem you will have with tap water is on your misting machines. It cloges nozzels. I think he will be fine.

If you have drank water out of your sink than you have drank shower water. Its the same thing. You need to use antibactal soap on the head of the plant to wash off chemicals. Just Rinse, rinse, rinse. You should be fine. Then of course change the soil and all that good stuff.

I never drink out of my sink... Sink water is dirty.

So you have never used water from your tap or drank the water from your tap, or made ice from the water in your tap?

I drink and cook with my tap water all the time, so it's the water my animals get and are fine. Here's an alternative way to do a shower, and is what I've been doing.

(The cham in the photo had recently been through surgery so she wasn't happy for a week or two afterwards, but it's not the shower's fault)
I just put whatever plant I have (pothos, ficus, whatever) in the tub, fill up my 5 gal sprayer with HOT water, set it to the fine mist and it'll come out room temp-ish and they love it. And after a 20 minute shower I've only used 5 gals of water, compared to how much my shower would be using. And because the mist is fine and there is no thundering noise from the shower (if you have a high pressure one like I do) then I think it scares them less.

Just another way of doing it :)
