does anyone know any basic signs of impaction ? my chameleon has just stopped eating, his temps are right, he drinks. gets misted but he eats about 1 insect a day, but he is pooing a little bit. But can chameleons still be impacted but manage to do any sort of poo ? thanks in advance

If he is only eating one insect a day then he is not going to have much poop to produce, but at his age he should be eating every one of those crickets you are offering. You say they are small, so the size of the cricket does not sound like the problem. Sometimes if the feeder is too big when the cham is small they might not try to eat it. how long have you had your cham? I am gonna put the ask for help form up for you to fill out. We need to find out about your set up and see if there is something in the set up causing him not to eat possibly.

Your Chameleon - yemen/veiled, male, he is 5 months old. i have had him for two months
Handling - everyday
Feeding - i feed him everyday roughly about 12, i put 10-15 small crickets in dusted every so often. the crickets are gut loaded and i put the calcium powder onto the crickets food every other day just to make sure
Supplements - i use vionate every 3 days, i do monday, thursday and sunday
Watering - he hates being sprayed/misted he runs off from it, but i still mist him a few times a day with warm water, also i use a little dripper what i leave on for about ten mins, and it drops onto his leaves. i do see him drinking but not a lot.
Fecal Description -its dark with a ball of white in it, firm and hes not been checked for any parasites yet
History - he drowned and died and i brought him back to life and every since he looks really sluggish, and hes wheezing every now and again, but straight away when he gets one cricket down, its like hes backed up and cant breathe while hes eating, i read on the internet to use cod liver oil which i gave him a drop of, didnt help didnt make things worse

What do you mean he DROWNED!? How, did that happen? If he is wheezing he probably has water in his lungs and that would account for him not wanting to eat. How long ago did this happen? You did not fill out the rest of your questionaire. Also post some pictures of your chameleon and your cage please!

i dont know much about chams yet but that does not sound right correct me if am wrong . exo terra, infra red spot bulb, im using a 10.0 uv bulb exo terra and a 75 w basking bulb

i hadn't even gotten to the cage set up yet. We are talking about a chameleon who drowned here and is wheezing so there are other problems that obviously should be addressed first here. As far as the 10.0, most of us use the Reptisun 5.0 tube. There are debates over the 5 and 10 on here from time to time. I use the 5.0. The breeder who sold him to me, who has been breeding and raising chams for about 15 yrs at Kammerflage Kreations, told me to use this. I am going to listen to her as she obviously knows what she is doing. If the 10.0 is working for you, then use it. Nicky, get rid of the red bulb. It serves no purpose. you need a UVB, and a basking bulb, plain and simple.

i was using a normal white basking bulb, he was wheezing before all this, it was only the other day i changed it to a exo terra infra red is was because the pet didnt have any others, im changing it this friday, the pet shops told me while he is young he should have a 10.0 ive been checking his eyes and how much they are dilated and they seem alright doesnt seem to be losing any eye sight. i am going to change it though because a lot of people are saying the same thing, i think the pet shop said it because its a dearer bulb

ill have to send in pics next week when my camera gets sorted. the mad thing is him drowning- he escaped from his tank and my boyfriend found him in the dogs water bowl! he was dead ,lifeless, cold and floppy. my boyfriend got the bit of tubing from the little dripper which he put in the chams mouth and blew gently into him and pressed his chest we did this for 5- 10 mins and gor water out of him and it was like a miracle because the next thing is he was up and walking on my hand!

if he's wheezing and he "drowned" he really should go to a reptile vet ASAP! Chameleons have air sacs like birds and infection can just "pool" in them. You said he was found in your dogs water bowl...that place is a haven for all sorts of bacteria! He is going to need an x-ray of his body to check for pneumonia in his air sacs and lungs

thanks for the advice thats what i was going to do but just wanted a few peoples points of view who knew what they were talking about.

If he was wheezing prior to drowning then he probably had the start of a respiratory infection. I agreee with the other member, you need to take him to a vet asap! I would not waste any time either!

How did this cham drowned? I'm kinda wondering how u brought this Cham back to life? I would personally recommend getting a reptisun 5.0 and losing the 10.0... Also try misting a little less and let it get a little dryer in his cage that might help his wheezing if he has a uri... All else fails find yourself a good vet and good luck
