SILENT CRICKETS.. Is there such a thing?

I've been told to try banded crickets as they're silent unlike the black and brown types is this true?

Banded crickets are pretty much silent and almost have no smell compared to the brown ones. I am not a fan of crickets, but when I got my new baby panther I had to return to them for awhile, but got him switched over fairly fast to dubia. I use to ordered my banded from Josh's Frogs. Hope this helps

Thanks for the message.
To be quite honest, I'm loathed to go back to crickets of any type. I almost had a nervous breakdown with their incessant chirping at night. A couple had escaped on me! I stopped them almost two weeks ago. My juvenile chameleon liked them, alot. He's really fussy and will take two hoppers on a good day! I've tried banana and red runner roaches, wax and silkworms snails, all to no avail! Pity.
If banded crickets were actually silent, I'd have no hesitation in buying them.

For some reason, uneaten roaches, die after 24-36 hours in the feeding pot. Crickets were the exactly the same. Is it stress that kills them, as they cannot escape?

I'd say more like dehydration.

IME with dubias, they'll last a few days in the bowl if given a little something to sustain them. I've had "escapees" show up in the enclosure (or in the house) weeks later―alive & well.

But generally, I only leave them in the bowl or cup for a day, then cycle them with fresh. Some sources say not to put uneaten dubias back in a container, but I've never had a problem. If I do, I'll probably do something different, like one container for "virgins" and another for "recycled".

I thought it was stress as they can last a couple of weeks without food or water! I think I'll buy something like instar 2 ie immature and wingless. That way no chirping ?

Adult banded crickets do chirp. I buy juvenile 3/4" ones from Josh's Frogs to keep things quiet. Sometimes a full grown adult gets into the order. I try to feed those ones off first.

Thank you for your reply. I was going to buy sexually immature, wingless ones ie instar 2 and just feed more of them!
How would I know what instar 3/4 inch is?

If I leave my dubias that long, they resort to cannibalism. YMMV.
IME, there's also a difference between not giving them water (all of which they get from carrots, veggies, etc.) and baking them under a basking light.

Maybe those that breed them know better.
