Just got into my silk worms this morning to my little dude some breakfast and, there are two silk balls. My first batch of silkies didnt make any webs, there is web all through this batch and now the two balls.

I was just wondering are there eggs in these? If i leave them will i have baby silk worms?

No you have to have moths to get eggs. Do a search on silkworms 101

Yea it will tell you everything you need to know about silkworms. If you cant find it on here let me know, and I will look it up for you.

Good luck!

The 'balls' are cocoons. The silk worm made that and is inside turning into a moth. The moth will emerge and mate with other moths (if you have more that hatch at the same time) and die after a couple of days after it lays eggs. You can then take the eggs and cool them in the fridge for a couple of weeks and then warm them to about 80 in a dish with some silkworm chow cut really thin. You need to keep an eye on them because the smallest condensation can drawn the baby worms. keep them around 80* for at least 10-15 days. Keep them fed and warm and they will grow nice and big.

hey thanks for the info. I think im going to give it a try, i bought 50 mediums and half of them are large and probably ready to go into the cocoon state. Might as well try to get something out of them.

sure... its worth a try.

I haven't done it myself...

but take some of the larger ones you have and set them aside. then take some towel roll cores and cut them up so you have little 2" cylinders.... glue them together like your making a honeycomb wall.... or I think you can just set them into a container upright and place a worm in each cylinder. They will spin a cocoon... leave them alone for a while but check on them after a while to see if they have hatched. I am foggy on how you take it from that point. I think if you remove the cocoon from the cylinder and place them into a container where they can hatch out and mate and lay the eggs you'll be set.
