could you essantially start your own group. Have some of them grow into moths, harvest the eggs, grow them and repeat? and feed the majority to your chameleon and whats left over start a new generation?, maybe i missed something is that what alot of people do?(lol),it completly didnt phase me that you can do that.

Yes, and since I wrote the article that lonomac linked to (the one on chameleonnews), which was almost 3 years ago, there have been many improvements on how to house and breed the larvae both by me and others. If you do a search for silkworms here you can find some creative ways. The pods they come in work fine if you are doing a small amount. I still use the plastic canvas I show in the article but have made some changes for simplicity.

They are easy to rear, but the chow can get expensive. Just be sure to make only what you need so you are not throwing out a lot of food that has dried up in their container. The powder will stay in the fridge (once open) for a very long time, unopened almost indefinitely so you can stock up when your supplier is having a sale. The cooked chow will keep in fridge for about a month. If you have access to a mulberry tree then you are set :D My personal caution would be that some chameleons do tire of them as a staple. This has been the case with both my veiled and my panther and even my beardie. Btw, they will eat the moths as well.

Have fun ;)

Hey ... I've been hatching the eggs and feeding the chow for a while now. I'm actually looking at increasing the amount that I currently hatch as I have several people here that want to buy them from me. I haven't quite gotten the whole routine down to a science yet.

My next step is to try the cocoon to moth to eggs part. I've currently been buying the eggs but am soon going to try and get my own so I just have to purchase the chow.

I'll be sure to post some pics with descriptions when I get it all figured out!

Dyesub Dave. :D
