Silkworm feed

So I've read tons of threads where they all state that silkworms will only eat mulberry leaves or silkworm chow, am I misunderstanding this information?
I ran out of chow and started to feed my silkworms carrots and greens and they seem to be doing fine, am I going to wake up to find a container full of dead silks? Did I just commit mass silkworm murder? Anyone any info?

They will eat other things for a while, but I have never had a batch that can be sustained on anything other than chow or leaves for long periods of time. I think I got away with a few days at most.

Depends on size. I'd use dandelions, carrot can have way more water than other foods which is usually what cause problems if they do happen, but peoe on this forum have raised them on carrots for 50% of thier life and they did fine. If they seem to be having problems, let the carrots dry for a while after you've sliced them up.
