I have a young (under 1 wk old) Jacksons chameleon that seems to have lost some weight. He is much more active than when I first got him, but I have yet to notice him eat. Humidity is high, basking light is set around 80* and I was told I shouldnt need a UVB bulb for a bit but plan to get a reptisun5.0 tonight anyway. I am offering him fruit flies. Is there anything else I can do for him, any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

your cham is only one week old? how did you get one so young? what type of cage do you have it in? is it 80 degrees all over or just at a limited basking site?

From Brad's thread:

Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By giving this info in your post, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to include all this info, but the more you do include the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile vet who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnostic of your chameleon's health.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - What kind of cage are you using? What is the size?
Lighting - What kind of lighting are you using? How long do you keep the lights on during the day?
Temperature - What temperature range have you created? Basking spot temp? What is the temperature at night?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Location - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What kind of schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What are you dusting your feeders with and what kind of schedule do you use?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Current Problem - The current problem that you are concerned about.

I know a friend that works at a petstore that recently received a pregnant female Jacksons. Soon after she had 9 little babies. Baby is in the largest critter keeper that petsmart sells, probably about 18ish inches long, 12 inches high, and maybe 10 inches across? Its at my boyfriends house so I cant check it. The critter keeper was recommended to me at first so baby could catch the fruit flies. I do have a large Reptarium screen thing for when he gets older, but did not find it appropriate for his current size. The basking area is limited for thermoregulation, I have a leopard gecko so I am familiar with that. Thanks for the quick response!

Cage Info:
Cage Type - A CRITTER KEEPER FOR NOW, ABOUT 18LX10WX12H
Lighting - A 15W BASKING BULB, MAINTAINS 78-808 FOR 10ISH HRS A DAY.
Temperature - BASKING SPOT IS 80*, 758 DURING THE DAY ON THE NON BASKING SIDE. 72-74ISH AT NIGHT WITHOUT A LIGHT.
Humidity - ABOVE 60 PERCENT OR MORE SINCE I GOT HIM. USING A PAPER TOWEL BASE AND MOSS IN THE WATER DISH
Plants - N/A
Location - OUT OF DRAFT, LOW TRAFFIC AREA. NEAR A WINDOW WITH MINOR FILTERED SUNLIGHT... MY CURTAINS ARE MOSTLY BLACK WITH WHITE AND ALWAYS CLOSED.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - JACKSONS, PRESUMABLY MALE (HORNS GROWING ALREADY), 5 DAYS OLD
Feeding - ATTEMPTING TO FEED FRUIT FLIES, ABOUT 10 A DAY, THOUGH I HAVENT SEEN HIM EAT. I HAVE CRICKET DUST, THOUGH I HAVENT USED IT FOR 2 REASONS... 1. THE CULTURE SAYS THEY COME GUT LOADED, AND I FIGURED THAT WITHOUT THE UVB MY CRICKET DUST WOULDNT BE ABSORBED ANYWAY! dONT WORY, GETTING UVB TONIGHT.
Supplements - N/A
Watering - CHAMELEON DRINKS WELL WHEN MISTED
Fecal Description - UKNOWN
History - ALL CHAMELEON BABIES NOTED EATING THE FIRST DAY AT THE PETSTORE, SO I KNOW HE HAS ACCEPTED FOOD, MORE IMPORTANTLY-FLIES IN THE PAST.
Current Problem - aPPEARS SKINNIER THOUGH LARGER THAN THE DAY WE GOT HIM. hAS BEEN A LOT MORE ACTIVE IN THE LAST FEW DAYS. HE ISNT ON THE VERGE OF DEATH BUT i WANT TO STIMULATE HIM TO EAT BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM!
