ok my first cham, and i havent seen him ( Dozzer ) sleep so i took him out of his cage tonight and held him in my hands close to my chest and he curled his tail and went to sleep, is that a good thing or not ? hes about 3-4 months old..... thanks Joy

How long have you had your chameleon? It is very odd for a chameleon to not sleep. Are you maybe just not recognizing it?

All of my chameleons fall asleep right before or shortly after their lights go off. What kind of lighting schedule do you have your chameleon on? My lights come on in the morning, are on for 12 hours and go off at night. Chameleons benefit from a night time temperature drop and the darkness signals them to sleep, so lights at night are completely unnecessary.

Is your chameleon's cage in a high traffic area? Is there a television or stereo nearby that could be causing vibration that is keeping him or her awake? What species is he?

Try filling out this helpful form to help myself and others perhaps recognize something that could be changed in your setup or husbandry to remedy the problem.

the cage i have for him right now is all temp untill i get to the expo on the 16th lights r good as i have been dealing with BD's for 3 years i am just learning about the cham's and of course he must be sleeping when lights r off and i am not in the room its just last night was the first time i had him out at night time and he curled his tale and went to sleep on my chest that was so sweet and i really became fond of him since he is my son and gf's pet, i just dont like the tongue action just sorta creeps me out but i'm used to the BD's shorter .... but how can u not fall for these lil' guys thanks for the forms i'm sure as i read on and watch what he does i will learn more about Dozzer thanks for the tips... Joy:eek:

Awww, that's cute!

If he's not sleeping well, make sure his cage cools down at least 10 degrees and is in a very dark and quiet area. ALSO... make sure there aren't a ton of crickets running around in the cage, they can bite your chameleon and keep him awake too. Remove any uneaten ones you find.

A sleeping chameleon is one of the cutest things in the world to me. My Cricket turns neon green when he sleeps. ^_^
