So excited!!!!!

I've been researching Panther chameleons and breeders for over a month now, and gathering supplies bit by bit. I went to the Exotic Animal Expo in Noblesville, IN today to see if I could get the last couple of things cheaper than around here. I had previously looked at the info on the vendors, and no one mentioned anything on their sites about Panthers. But I still checked everyone out thoroughly when I got there just on the off chance that someone might HAPPEN to have a young male Ambanja or Sambava. Well, lo and behold, I found one! The ONLY one at the whole show, and he was an Ambanja!!!! So I snapped him up right quick!

Still trying to think of a name. I keeping coming back to Captain Jack, but I'm sure I'll decide on something a little more exotic! lol The 1st pic is him at the show. The 2nd (sorry, upside down) is him nice and calm, dark red and blue after the trip home. The 3rd pic is the amazing bright orange when he got all fired up! I think he's gorgeous! And did I mention how excited I am?!?

Like captian jack from doctor who? :p:rolleyes::p

Do you have any other pictures? Because of thats an ambanja he must be AMAZING! I have never seen one like this!

Congrats on your find. Nice colors but he looks a bit dehydrated. I would suggest you try and get him to drink, by misting , a dripper or shower.
He may start eating and drinking straight away or may take a few days to settle in. Good luck.

I was thinking that, too. I misted him as soon as we got home. I'm still putting his cage together right now (I wasn't expecting to actually find one at the show), so he'll be all settled in very soon. Also, gonna try to get him into the exotics vet in the next few days for his general check-up.

Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean! LOL :D:p

The other pics I have aren't as clear. I'll take some more later when I get him settled. Do you think he's something else? Or a mix? I was quite surprised when I got him home and he went almost completely orange!! I am VERY curious to see how he turns out! :)

Ambanjas rarely can be known to turn orange like dis: http://screameleons.com/chameleon-breeder/ambanja-reventon/

but IMHO ( and I'm NO expert) I think he looks more like this rarer local:http://screameleons.com/chameleon-breeder/tamatave-slanesh/

Although what ever he is, he sure is a stunner and very pretty! Im sure he is a nice boy :p

Do you have any more pictures?

He was quite pretty. I lost him a few days after I got him, so I don't have many photos. I would LOVE to have seen him all grown up.... :(

he was very pretty and I am thinking maybe a tamatave? Do you know why he died? In the last pics he looks really dehydrated. His fat pads look all sunk in and his eyes don't look great either. Was he drinking??? Sorry he didn't make it.

What Do You Mean?

What do you mean by "I lost him a few days after I got him" ?
Does that mean you lost him and can't find him? I'm just curious.
:confused::confused:

He was dehydrated and very thin when I got him. He drank really well at first. A few days later he crashed and wouldn't eat or drink anything. The vet did sub-q fluids and sent home some some food to syringe feed, but didn't hold out much hope. She said whatever the issue was it had been going on for a long time. He died that night. I knew it was probably coming, so was up all night with him. I had him 5 days. :(

This may be a little bit inappropriate or insensitive for me to post so soon after losing your cham, but the vendor who sold you the chameleon, did he or she make any reference to some sort of health guarantee? I know its quite a common practice to offer at least a 10 day health guarantee. I know chams are more fragile than most other reptiles, but to have one die after only 5 days would suggest that something was already seriously wrong with him at the time of purchase, and in my opinion you should be entitled to some sort of compensation. Just a thought...Sorry for your loss.
