Some New Cage set ups for form and Function...

Evening All,

Just finished setting up a couple of new cages and thought I would share some details.

Each time I set up a new cage, I am always looking for ways to not only make it look good, but improve functionality for cleaning purposes as well as moving cages around and outside.

So, here is my latest updates.

To start, here are the two cages.

One requirement is that there was one plant in each cage with the ability to slide it out easily for thorough cleaning yet still be able to add necessary branches. I mentioned in another thread how I put horizontal branches within the plants, then added the others for appropriate basking options as well as access to the drippers. Again, plants can be slid out and placed back easily.

Access to turn off mister and drippers.

As you can see here, on off valves for both the misters and drippers are at the front edge. This way I can shut them off, disconnect them, and simply remove the cages.

You can see here how the drippers are across the top of screen and inserted inside.

Lighting and basking bulbs.

Both are suspended over the cages and can be adjusted. You can see that the basking lights are on dimmers and I can control them separately to make sure temps are on target.

I dont have a pic of it, but the cages are sitting on a drain table with casters with piping that drains into PVC that routes the water outside.

So now the trick is I am pretty OCD so I will have to go back and re do a number of my older cages!!

Thanks for looking!

One thing I have always wondered about... My Jax can't grip on those curly willow branches. They seem to be too hard and slick. Do panthers and veileds have issues holding onto those? Do you prep them somehow?

Just curious. I really like how they look, but I took them out because Ferdinand can't use them.

You know I have only ever used them in two other cages. One is a juvenile panther with no issues, and the other is a Bradypodion which has no issues, but there is not a lot of water going into that cage.

They do get slick when wet so I will have to keep an eye on it. You can always rough it up with sandpaper a lil bit. It is just composite material.

Oh man the inline dimmers are the ticket. "the light's" just turned on in my head. Duh!!!!! I said to myself. I have a lutron one around here somewhere. I have been going between a 40 and a 60 watter this winter (well what winter we have in FL) depending on what the outside temps are. Thanks for sharing.

They look very good Bobby, lots of good ideas you have come up with! I might just steal a few of them :D

Well thought out, they look great. I'm stealing some ideas as well. Do you have your drippers on a seperate misting pump, or do you just take the nozzles off?

The Drippers are run off of a separate pump from the misters. They are drip irrigation drippers that you would get at lowes or HD. I can try to get some pics of that set up tomorrow.
