Someone got a new castle! (56k Warning)

Well I decided to do away with the "Phone Booth" (260 gal Flex) and go with another Aluminum screen cage for Fonzie (Male Ambilobe). I got tired of zipping, and fumbling with that dang thing.:( I went with a 2'x2'x4' Alum screen from LLL. I spent about 6 hours setting this up, and making sure it was Fonzie approved. The reason I know he approves is because he was on my shoulder the whole time during the set up.....He wore his hard hat, and bossed me around.... He's a big spoiled baby.:D I work for the chameleons, I swear. I used dowels for this set-up, they worked better then I expected, and made routing vines clean and easy. The stand was made from odds and ends I had at the shop, and matches the cage really well. All thats left is to mount the thermo/humid guage and clean up the cords and mist lines.:)

Anywhoo....heres his new castle...

Fonzie approves!;)

Thanks for looking.:)

Nice Setup, How does drainage work though? runs into plants? Looks great, nice and bright too! :)
Im still fumbling zippers , one broke recently, just the grabhold bit, Annoying though.

Nice set-up, Jay :)

What did you use to attach the dowels to the screen? I can't see any wiring or glue on the ends of them!

Thank you. I drilled pilot holes and used #4 pan head screws, they are very sterdy. I got the idea from Mr. Sims and Elisa, and modified it some.:)

Looks good!!!

I just started using the dowels too, I drilled a small hole in them and used floral wire to fasten it to the screen, so far it is all working very well.

Very nice setup I'm loving the dowels.

I just received mine (the exact same enclosure) and set it up. Is your heat lamp keeping that thing heated well? what Wattage heat lamp would you recommend? And Im guessing your UV light is a 24''? Sorry about all the questions, I'm looking to get my lighting right as I haven't used an enclosure for this size before.

Btw I really like your plants, what are those 2 sitting up at the front of the pic? I Currently have a Hibiscus in mine, it reaches the top but I'm looking for a plant decent enough to reach the middl'ish height of the enclosure, any suggestions?

I'm guessing that's him sitting in the top corner lol, or you have a very chameleon-like leaf.

Jay this means we can forget the baby veiled! You just spent all your money. The cage really looks great. Did you use the thumbtack in the end of the dowel method to secure them? I alson learned that from Steve Sims, another sweetie on the forum. You guys are so creative, I am glad you all share, that enclosure is awsome.

Jay,

First off, Fonzie is beautiful! I like the beige frame on the cage, and the dowels are awesome, do you think they can hold the weight of a Pathos pot? What did you do for drainage, if anything?
Impressive!!!!:D

awesome setup man....I'm setting up a new one for my panther Cham too, how far do u put the top branch from the basking lamp?

Thank you guys, Fonzie has spent the better part of the morning exploring his new home, and is still searching for his favorite spot.:D

The plants in the front are Hibiscus and already bloomed a week or so back. I have a fresh pair about to bloom that I will replace with later today. I am using a 60 watt incadescent for the basking area, and am monitoring the temps throughout the day to judge weather its the perfect bulb. If anything I may need to move to a 75 watt to keep it just right. I am using a Repti-Sun 5.0 for uvb, and am wondering if I should have up it to the 10.0? (Kevin..Juli??) As for the misting system and drainage, I have a MistKing premium nozzle that fires at the top of the ficus along with the surrounding foliage. Most of the water seams to be running down the vines themselves and not really dripping all the way to the bottom. I have a few days off, so I will have time to make changes as I see fit.

His set up is already here and just needs to be assembled. It will be almost identical to Fonzie's only in a 18"x18"x36". Marty sent out the few items I needed to plumb the mist system on Monday, so I am hoping we will be on for next wednesday.:) I have to agree the dowel idea with the tacks was brilliant! I just felt it needed a bit more gusto and used small screws, either way it works great.:)
