Hi all. Here goes:
Chameleon Info:
Cage Info:
Current Problem - When I went to feed her today, she took a lot longer than sh normally does. Usually, she gobbles up her crickets in less than 2 minutes. Today it took her around five minutes to finish not even all of them. I cup feed, so she usually sticks her head in the cup and I don't see her shooting out her tongue, but I feel and hear the thwack of it hitting the cup. Today I got a glimpse of her tongue and it looked darker than usual and a little swollen, but maybe that's because I saw it as it was first coming out, and not stretched all the way as I have before? She seemed to be chewing slower as well, and her chin/neck area (I don't know what it's called) appears swollen to me. I noticed the swelling the past two days but didn't realize it was swelling. It kind of looked like she was puffing up, irritated with me, but it's not going away. It's persistent, and I don't think it's puffing up anymore. I'll add pics in a moment.
Should I make a vet visit? Is this something to worry about?
Chameleon Info:
- Your Chameleon - Female veiled, between 7&8 months. I've had her nearly 3 months. Wow, seems like longer!
- Handling - Rarely. Every other week or so for cage cleaning.
- Feeding - I feed Charlie between 10-12 small/medium crickets every other day. Crickets are gutloaded with both fresh greens (sometimes carrots and apples too) and cricket crack. She also has a pothos that she munches on between feedings
- Supplements - Crickets dusted at every feeding with repti calcium w/o D3, twice a month with repti calcium with d3 and reptivite multivitamins.
- Watering - I have a dripper that's on all day. I've had the Mist King for about a week and a half. It runs 5 times throughout the day, for 3-4 minutes each time.
- Fecal Description - Firm, brown droppings. Urates are pretty white, sometimes with a bit of yellow at the end. The most recent one I witnessed (earlier this week) her urate was super watery. I just attributed that to better hydration from the mist king. She only goes a couple times a week, less than she used to. I'm assuming because I've recently cut down her food? Never been tested for parasites.
- History - Had a vet visit after I first got her, but that was just for a check up, and they said she was great. Nothing has come up since.
Cage Info:
- Cage Type - 16X16X30 all screen cage
- Lighting - Lights are on a 6 to 6 schedule. I have a double dome light with I think reptisun 5.0 UVB (threw out the packaging a while ago) and basking bulb. I am in the process of finding better lights.
- Temperature - Ambient temp is low 70s, basking temp is low 80s. Varies based on time of day. I have a temp gun to measure. Overnight temp doesn't go below 60
- Humidity - Humidity hovers in the 50s. Measured with a digital hygrometer. Have a dripper and mister and live plant
- Plants - Pothos
- Placement - Cage is in my bedroom where it's just me and my cats (they don't bother her. Don't even realize she's there) and she doesn't seem bothered by them either. She's on a book shelf, the top of her cage is maybe 2 ft from the ceiling. No fans or vents nearby.
- Location - Southern Cali, in the more dry area
