I just read that a chameleon has a curled tail when he's angry or nervous. What does it mean when a chameleon has a curled tail vs. straight tail?

They curl it up at nite, and sometimes when sitting, to center their balance.
It decreases the chance of falling.
Other than that, tail position doesnt mean much.

As with all animals,i am sure there is some degree of body language going on, however, just as with humans, one movement at one point in time can mean one thing, and the same movement in a different situation could mean something completely different. As much as i would love to be able to sit down and read a psychological and behavioral profile of chameleons ( which i would totally love, i'm obsessed with animal psychology ).. the general reality is that learning the behavioral characteristics of a creature take careful time and observation, as well as a patience beyond most people. i can read the behaviors and thoughts of most of my fish ( yes fish ) and know how they are going to react to most given situations based on how they are acting and moving. this has come with years of watching and studying.
Mind you, spending all your time studying animals and their behavioral traits is not the best way to keep your significant others happy.
But, for some, such as myself who love to understand ( or believe we do) whats going on in our animals minds, its a way of life and a passion.

my veiled when anrgy and pissed iam in his cage will blow up show the same colors as the veiled above labeled angry/ scared and then thumps it up and down to make him self seem bigger the nhe is he only done it twice in aobut a year but it is freaky

well, in my tail observations, seems like the position of their tail just depends on however they need it at the time based on their current movements. Basically if they're not moving, it's more likely to be curled. Then the more they're moving, the more likely to be flat. JMO.

Sometime when they are about to fall they wrap their tail around something. Ex: A vine

Hey ! I’m new to this forum so not entirely sure how to post my own question but it’s relative to yours, I have a veiled chameleon, I’ve had lizards and other “types” of chameleons before and I just wondered what colour tongue should a veiled chameleon have? She’s got a purple/ black tongue, sometimes it’s darker and sometimes it’s lighter nearing a shade of pink but has a healthy colour mouth, is this normal? Thanks in advance
