What is safe to put at the bottom of my enclosure? I'm afraid to put anything because she has had a habit of eating dirt I don't want her to get sick. thank you
I keep nothing on the bottom. Much easier to keep clean and no smell. Substrates allow tiny bits of feces to get attached to it and it builds up. Not only that, but the large amounts of water that fall on it will just create a nasty smell that is just intolerable.
Substrate will also allow bacteria to build up and it could harm your chameleon. The best thing you can do is keep it simple..nothing at the bottom. Do spot cleaning and you'll be better off.
i either keep the bottom bare or a natural outdoor carpet,, NO PAPER TOWELS, i tried them for a time but noticed on more then one occasion a cham getting a pc stuck to their tounge when shooting for food and ingest it.

I like the bare bottom.. I dont like paper towels because they get so soggy and break apart when you try and pick them up that is seems like more of a hassle. I just spot clean every other day or so.
