before i joined this forum i had exoterra tropical soil substrate. or something like that. anyways i was just wondering what i should have? i dont have a live plant yet. and i have a 38 gal flexarium with that rubbery tray. right now i have nothing on the bottom of the cage. should i put papertowel or something? it seems like it would be so dry. or should i just keep putting down the soil.

Don't put anything. Your cham won't be hanging around down there, they live in trees. Its best if you don't put anything on the bottom. feeders will hide in substrate and also if your cham is down there he/she might accidentally snatch up some substrate when shooting at a cricket.

I've read the same at many places, do not use substrate. If ingested it can cause problems. Chams eat from leaves so substrate is not something they should encounter too often. I did, however, read that you can use newspaper. This will make cleaning easier since it is disposable and your cham will also not ingest it. I am going to try it as soon as my cage comes.
