Some say staple. Some say treat. Others say enrichment feeder.
What are the Pros and cons of superworms as a staple?

I'd like to breed these. But I want to know if I should.

No dont use them as staple feeder u can feed 3-4 every day or every other day. They are kinda high in fat from what i hear and really we both have 1 chameleon so there really is no point. Just buy them every week, or when you finished them. Most people will say what i just did.

Umm.... I can AND I can't. Gotcha.

Yes, to save $10 a week

Just buy them every week, or when you finished them.

My pet store is too overpriced. $8.99 for 25

They are kinda high in fat from what i hear

But my cham only would eat 1-2 a day. Would it still be too fattening?

Yes you CAN use them as a staple. if well gutloaded with lots of nutrient rich fruits and veggies. but why do that to your cham if you have crickets since theyre not the best things to feed, the process of breeding takes about 3-5 months from what i hear and isnt worth it for one cham, order them offline for cheaper pricing.

the thing is Steve, if you ask a question and people give you there opinion dont fight it just to hear what you want to hear, its not going to change things.

I wasn't ¨fighting,¨ i was answering/replying to Stefan's post.
I apologize. I didn't try to argue, Stefan.

but why do that to your cham if you have crickets

Because Crickets are expensive here, and i aint breeding them! Stinkers lol

Back on track now.....lol

Supers are fine as a staple feeder, but variety is key to keep your chameleon healthy and ballanced.

They have a higher percentage of fat then most feeders, wax worms being the worst if I remember correctly, but still stand strong as a staple.

The best way to stay ballanced is to change it up as often as you can. The chameleon will get bored of the same feeder day in and day out.

Supers also have an excellent shelf life, and are easy to breed, pending your patient.

So to sum it up.... Yes you can use them as a staple. Same goes for Silkworms, roaches and crickets.

What are the Pros and cons of superworms as a staple?

Pros:
Readily available (in north america at least)
Inexpensive to purchase
Easy (if slow) to breed
Can be somewhat gutloaded

Cons:
Low Calcium: Phosphorous ratio - must be dusted with calium to correct
Not nutritionally rich, though gutloading helps considerably
VERY high in fat.
When offered too frequently, often there is a tendance for chameleons to make this a preferred prey, even to the exclusion of other prey (longer term detriment of the chameleon)

In my opinion, these are a good feeder option when gutloaded if provided twice weekly max in combination with many other feeder choices.
