The Teflon spray or Im not sure what it was called, ( the slick stuff) you can put on the rim of a bowl that insects can not climb on....? Will this stuff also work with the fruit flies? Just trying to think of another way to feed the babies and not loose any flies if possible....

I put a piece of fruit in the with the babies, makes the flies hang around. Just don't leave it in there to long.

putting the flies into a bowl which they cannot climb out of is the objective, but i did do the fruit trick and it works as well, the flies aren't really escaping the new enclosure i don't think, they were in the last one which made me paranoid..just trying something new to give my little ones all the food easily available.. they are turning out to be great hunters...

I do the fruit thing too. I put a piece of ripe banana on top of a little orange wedge. The smell of the banana attracts the flies and mini crickets and the orange provides hydration. I change the fruit every other day.

If you're worried about them climbing out of the bowl, try putting a piece of clear packing tape around the rim.

They shouldn't be able to stick to to it to climb out. (At least that's what I read on a cricket rearing page last night.)

Fruit flies have no trouble climbing over tape (that's for crickets) and even less trouble climbing over the teflon paint.
The fruit is a great idea.

I tried apple pieces and a few flies stuck around but the majority took off and never came back.
