Temperature too low at basking?

So i found my new little guy, Ambilobe panther (male) that is about 3 months old hanging upside down from the screen at the top of the cage where it is a toasty 108 degrees fahrenheit... I know very bad. This is the first I have seen him do this. Only had him 4 days.

When the cage mists the temperature at the basking spot obviously drops down, but only drops to about 75 degrees.

The basking spot is at a nice and warm 86 degrees fahrenheit.

Here is a picture of the enclosure.

I am using the Exo terra SUNRAY fixture which is awesome.

Any ideas why he would be climbing up to where is is 110 or 111 degrees when the basking spot should be substantial enough for him? Obviously he wants to get warmer, I figured at 86 degrees he'd be happy.

In my limited experience, it's not unusual to see chams that age hanging on the top mesh. Maybe it's because they can. Maybe, it's to explore the environment. Maybe it's to figure out how to get out of the stupid cage. They climb to feel safe, and the top screen is as high as they can get. With that in mind, it's not apparent to me from the photo of your beautiful viv that there are places where a young cam can hide. Another thing to think about, was he actually basking? That is, was his body flattened and turned perpendicular to the light?
