Temporary food for my Cham

So I went to my normal petstore (NOT A CHAIN STORE) to re-up on 1/4 crix for my 4 month old Veiled female and of course they are out till tomorrow afternoon (hopefully). All they had were supers, which I have for my big guy, and regular mealworms. The Supers are to big for her but I had to get some mealworms for my Leopard Gecko so I got a few extra so I can feed her till I get more crix. My question is how many should I feed her? I usually give her roughly 12 crix a day, plus or minus, and half of those I dust with supplements. How many should I dust?

They can go with little food for a couple days no problem. I wouldnt give more than two mealworms at a time (unless they are just freshly molted and thus white in colour) due to the digestability (or relative UNdigestability).

So 2 will do. Thanks for the tip. I use Supers as the staple feeder for my big guy so I know about letting them molt before feeding but with my Supers I have a colony about 200 strong so I never really have trouble finding any, plus I put a few in isolation to produce more beetles so that causes a molt pretty quick. I don't know if that trick works with reg mealworms but thankfully there are 3 that look freshly molted. Does anyone know if the isolation trick works with mealworms?

Great - if you've got freshly moulted little king worms and meal worms, you could go 4 a day until the crickets come in :)
I find the meal worms molt most the day after I give them fruit, which is only once a week (harder veggies the rest of the week does for hydration).
oh and just dust half of them, thats my normal rule of thumb.

my pleasure
I should said that too many worms too frequently is probably fattening - just incase someone is referring to this and forgets this is holding you over until crickets come in.

Yea, a few mealworms a day will due for now. I'm not a huge fan of mealworms myself, being as they have a low nutritional content, always favored superworms if my cham has been big enough :)

Silkworms is always a good thing to try, especially for the high calcium requirement of growing veileds. Silkworms are packed full of calcium and moisture, good idea to give them a try :) If your veiled is 4 months, you'd be fine with medium or large silkies even.

Give me a shout if you'd like to try them out :)

Good luck!
