Hello, everyone

My name is Richard and I'm a veterinarian in the US Army. Believe it or not, I have actually treated a reptile in Kotzebue, Alaska when the local veterinarian said he didn't usually see iguanas north of the arctic circle.

You have excellent veterinary representation here on the board already (Ferret's necropsy photos are professional and beautiful), so I am here to learn from experts and enjoy owning a chameleon of my own.

Just curious, what animals do you treat other than dogs in the US Army? Do you treat animals that the Army owns? Service people's pets? Both?

One of our primary jobs is caring for MWD (Military Working Dogs), but we also perform roles in bioterrorism preparedness, zoonotic disease research and training, public health advisory roles, and stuff like training host nation medical personnel on veterinary medical stuff.

It's the best job for a veterinarian in the world, hands down. Except for the whole eating MRE thing. Those things are nasty and stand for "Meals Refusing to Excrete," or "Meals Rejected by Ethiopians."
