The lowdown on tapwater: safe or not?

Im thinking about puting my six month old chameleon outside for the nice summer here in socal. my question is can i use the hose to water down his cage even though it runs from the same source as my tap water, my sink? any suggestions for housing my chameleon would be appreciated too, even though its off subject...

I also live in socal and have kept my chameleons outside with their primary water source coming directly from unfiltered tap. Obviously you should use filtered but I have not encountered any problems.

i would get an inline filter, pretty cheap and you never know what might be lurking or growing in your warm hose all day, IMO

Howdy,

Check into using a hose that is rated for drinking safety. I say this only because I've seen a lot of garden hoses in stores that are labeled that they are not for potable drinking water. I think it may either be that they leach out toxins from that type of material or that they just fear being sued by someone . San Diego tap water by itself should be safe enough for chameleons to drink.

they are having trouble making actual drinking (nalgene) and baby bottles !!! using safe materials, with raw materials at the price they are, i bet the formula for making a garden hose because less and less suitable

i use the black good year hoses, but i don't think they are rated for drinking, just keep it covered, purge your hose out before you spray that wate4r on your chams and last of all

when it rains let your chams flush there systems out in the clean water
