Think I Spoke Too Soon!

Well I've had my new baby veiled for about 2 weeks now, he's been lovely as ever, didn't try to bite or hiss at me and thought I may have hit the jackpot and got a friendly veiled LOL. Well I spoke to soon, his lights came on at 10AM and went to give him his first mist of the day at 11AM and what does he do, he sees me, hisses at me and then does a runner for it at back of the cage when he saw the evil spray bottle LMAO :D

Being small made it even funnier as well, seeing this little mouth and little hiss come out to someone like me, a human being, 100 times bigger than he is :p

And here I thought hissing was more of an adult thing.
My runs off after 2 squirts and is starting to identifie the spray bottle but has never hissed that ive ever seen after 2 months of owning him..

Will he start to hiss?
Or did I get lucky?
Does a cham bite hurt? Juvi or adult?

Anything with a mouth can and will bite if provoked. It doesn't hurt if your used to bites or anything like that however, your reaction to a bite could put you cham in danger. You don't want to flinch and jerk your hand away if they latch on. i would let them release your hand, then put them back. The last thing you want is to accidentally break your chams teeth and cause infections. Its not a painful bite, nothing like a monitor or tegu. Its Firm however. Also i'm guessing it depends on how pissed your cham is, size and species.

Hopefully that answers your question Reptilover

in my experience most bites are brief and feel something like a goose bite.

HOWEVER! some are ridiculously painful, specifically adult male veileds. and in fact more painful than 4.5 ft savannah monitor. i know, and trust me dont hand feed crickets to a monitor.

one male veiled in particular that i had literally felt like slamming your finger in a door and being electrocuted while he writhed back and forth trying to tear my finger off

No way Haha thats awesome , i would have figured a ticked monitor would hurt more, especially if it shook its head trying to get a better grip.

My male veil has bit me but its not that painful haha. Haha
good to know though.

So my next question, why would you feed crickets to a 4.5 foot monitor? haha...
If a monitor is feeding and it bites, its usually just a nip, but out of anger or fear those bites get harsh. not really painful but it can be bad
