Thinking about getting a panther, need advice

Ok so this will be my first chameleon and I have heard that panthers are a good species to start with. I quickly fell in love with their beautiful colors and have been researching them like crazy. The only problem is I still need to know the general stuff I need for their enclosure. I also need to know their humidity range and I think the temperature they need it at is 80 degrees F?

I'm not sure what other questions I have yet but I'm sure some will come along. Thank you to anyone who takes their time to answer me. <3

Hi Andee! normally we have caresheets for many cham species here on the forum but right now they appear to be getting worked on by some of the moderators and will be posted again soon! for now, this blog have a lot of info on basic care and set up for panthers and veileds! https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...-keepers-young-veiled-panther-chameleons.html
hope this helps some! ill keep my eyes out for the regular panther caresheet and send you the link when i find it :)

Thank you so much <3 this is so helpful 8D I will favorite it and write the list down

you're welcome!! everyone on the forum is great, they have helped me out a ton with my cham, so you've come to the right place for info and advice :) have you started looking into breeders to get your cham?

I was looking at Screameleons, they have Nosy Bes and Oorana Menas Morphs, I really want an Oorana but their care level is higher. I am not sure I am ready for that yet. I have to buy all my stuff first and set up the habitat before I can decide if it's stable enough for an Oorana.

There is no difference for that locale. A panther is a panther. Faly or oorana mena (same thing) are no different in husbandry requirements than ambilobe or nosy be or ....Etc. They are all furcifer paradalis.

Welcome to the forums!

Really? Ok then 8D I have nothing to worry about then the other stuff of just being ready for a panther. Then I will get an Oorana Mena hopefully ^^ they are gorgeous.

Andee,

I bought my Booberry (Avatar pic) from screameleons. They produce outstanding chameleons and provide outstanding customer support. I highly recommend them.

The owners Vincent and Farrah will be more than happy to assist with any questions you may have.

Good luck.

Yeah I've heard really good things about them, this only cements my thoughts on getting my panther from them.

MUST SAY AGAIN. Booberry is awesome!!! Love that Cham!

I agree Booberry is gorgeous, I was wondering if any of you knew if I could use Hiawatha moss in the habitat to keep the humidity at the right level if I need to stabilize. Hiawatha is what I use for my hermit crabs, it has no pesticides and no dyes, I just don't know what it'd do to a chameleon though... my hermies eat it all the time. Any thoughts?

Loose substrate like that is something to avoid. Their tongues can easily snag stuff like that and cause serious injury in some cases.. Jmo

Ok I won't use it then, I don't want anything to hurt the little one I plan on getting not when it can so easily be avoided. ^^ I will just invest in an automatic mister.

Ok update on the buying of a Cham I will probably be buying a Nosy Be Morph as I just looked at the price of an Orana Mena and sadly will not be able to afford one on my salary at the moment XD, oh well, whatever cham I get I know I will love it no matter what and Nosys are gorgeous all the same XD

Real quick question, I am guessing that the answer to this is yes, but for water I should be using dechlorinated or filtered water right?

i use water that i filter with a Brita filter, and thats worked fine for me. theres alot of debate on what water to use so well see what everyone else thinks :)

Im getting ready to get my first Cham too. Most likely from Screameleons. Gonna go with the ultimate set-up which comes with everything you need including a video on how to set it all up.

Ok so I fell in love with this little Panther Hybrid that I found on Kammer's and ended up buying him XD. They will be holding him for me until the 20th when I will be ready and set up for him. I think I will end up naming him either Ryker or Azure depending on how blue he is because his sire was a Nosy Be. I am sooooo excited >w<
