Thinking about getting into another species of chameleon.

Do you have any panthers? They are my favorite because of all the locales. Also, high end translucent veileds are very neat.

Panthers are alright, I had one but I don't really like the price that comes with them. Maybe in 10 years once they get a bit more reasonable I'll start looking back into them. Translucents are O-K, but again, the price tag is a little frightening.

Stick with something that tolerates high temps that wont bake in AZ easily. Id go with a furcifer verrucosus.

ps-chad may have some cbb ones

I was actually thinking about picking one up the last show but I didn't have a cage at the time. I thought his were CH, I'll have to ask. Thanks!

Syn-I think you genuinely care for your animals, and you know how to research and care for them. I also think that most of your losses have been due to heat? Or at least environmental conditions. I would carefully think about what you can provide for them in the near future before jumping in and adding more.

Thanks Julirs. I recently got a weekend job and purchased a window unit for my room. I am not jumping into buying a chameleon though, like I said I am going to do my research.. at least 3 month's worth of research... maybe even more, not to mention I think there isn't a show listed for the next 4-5 months, so there's another thing preventing me from buying one too quickly!

I say go with a CB F. Oustaleti if you have room. They have not got the color of a F. Verrucosus except the are a lot less skittish and adapt to captivity by far the best out of the two. Conan my last Oustaleti was awesome.

There are many different types to. Check The Chameleon Company they have has sold some neat color phases or morphs of Oustaleti in the past. Plus they could totally handle the Arizona weather.

Possibly I've just seen them for sale from him time from time. There are a couple of breeders that breed them here in California that you may want to check with. I've got a friend who's got two pairs right now however I could not say if he has got eggs at the moment.

Yup, has not been said enough Oustalets are an underrated species. They have not got the color however there size, temperament/ habits and how well they can adjust to captivity makes them awesome. Similar to if you had an overgrown Pardalis that has got a bigger appetite.

Yup, has not been said enough Oustalets are an underrated species. They have not got the color however there size, temperament/ habits and how well they can adjust to captivity makes them awesome. Similar to if you had an overgrown Pardalis that has got a bigger appetite.

I would think about getting a WC but I am just too paranoid about parasites.

I asked my uncle how many he had... the other day he said he was up to 30.
Not sure which type of Desert Tortoise he has, but it's the native species to here in AZ. However, he doesn't ever offer any to me, he likes them too much.

I've had sulcata in the past, before they were stolen... all they did was eat eat eat..
We moved them outside and all they did was dig dig dig.. and eat all of the grass we worked so hard to grow (IN AZ!! LOL!!!).

I would love to get a tortoise, don't get me wrong, but I really don't have the room inside for them, they require a lot of space (even if it's not height wise), but that's how I get away with geckos and chameleons, height wise is better.

Yes, I talked to Jim and apparantly he no longer works with Oustalets. But being it is quite hot where you live IF you are going outside of the veild species Id suggest oustalet.

+1 on the Oustalets. I always found the WC adults to settle down way better than the other giants, and they had a great personality. Not at all like the nasty verrucosus. I have never known any cb Oustys, but I bet they're great.

Why not Meller's? Any chance of a free range environment? They've got personality plus.

Melleri would be amazing. I would have a whole "closet" (ex-bathroom that no longer functions) that I could dedicate to a whole enclosure... it's just too dry here, and I'm not too sure how I would be able to keep the humidity up without getting a drainage system set up and buying SEVERAL humidifiers.. not sure how I'd keep those going, either, given how small some of the reservoirs are.

Ah, well.. it's a dream.

humidity, dang, yeah, I forget about how hard it is to keep humidity around things in the desert.

I have two little Sunbeam ultrasonic humidifiers of about a gallon and a half capacity, and they don't last two days. I can't imagine what it would be like in the low desert.
