i really want to breed my own crickets for my 2 veiled cham as its getting expensive buying them all the time but is there any thing else i can use because crickets stink an my male wont eat the black crickets i have heard of some type of roaches but not sure what these are:)

Dubia roaches are best, they dont stink, and are easy to breed if you start out with about 50-100, and black crickets?? are they dead or just a different kind,

thanks i try that umm there is 2 types of cricket i get brown ones they love these eat them all the time and black ones horrible looking things im not surprised they dont eat these lol

what else can i feed them all the time

oh ok, we dont have those in the states, thats why i was confused

apart from locusts and roaches is thier anything else i can breed without to much trouble and that can be thier main food source thanks

it's too cheap to buy crickets by the 1000's in the states to worry about breeding them for a pair of chams imo. - I don't get them from pet stores because that is too expensive. I get them from the people that supply the petstore lol.

So, sorry, but you might get more help from people closer to you

And I've heard of many people using dubia roaches so I'm going to work on a colony myself.

i did post a thread this morn

i wan set up a cricket colony but they stink to much i know i can use roaches and locusts but is thier any gin else i can use as thier main food supply and can i use any colour basking bulb or just the infa red ones as i have brought blue ones today thanks

you dont ever use red or blue bulbs....use a 40 watt house bulb...the heat bulbs will hurt your cham....also depends on what kinda cham you have...but either way i have 11 with a nice variety and i never use heat bulbs...just normal house bulbs...keeps them happy and saves tons of energy...my 2 cents!

This should be in the food and feeding forum.

The key to feeding is variety, however everyone here either uses roaches or crickets as a staple diet. Everyone suppliments with everything from locusts to silkworms and mealworms.

Roaches are the only feeder that I would consider "easy" to breed.

You bulb question needs clarification. Are you asking about a bulb for your chameleon or a bulb for your feeders?

If it's for your chameleon - don't use a colored bulb at all. You need is a UVB bulb and a heat bulb, or a bulb that emits enough heat for a basking spot.

i would go with the roaches. discoids or dubia. they are less of a pain. i did the cricket thing, it wasn't easy. then when i got pins, 90% died or where eaten. i even had screen to seprate them. some how they would get back to other side and be consumed. i just started my first roach colony with 65. mostly female, dubia. they eat good and are cleaner to keep. i still give him crix now though. my 1 veiled eats 20-25 large crix a day.or 3-4 large dubia a day.
