Thoughts on this Cham

So I was checking my local craigslist and came across this guys ad

"I have for sale a blue bar ambilobe panther chameleon male hatched feburary 2 hes about 10 months old eating crickets comes with a large screen cage 18*18, real live plant, vitamins, duster, mister, uvb light, basking light, branch's, magnaturals dripper system"

Now this would be great if this turned out to be a good chameleon because I would be saving a lot of money. But obviously I have a lot of hesitation and was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind checking out these pictures he's posted and letting me know what you think about this and perhaps some important questions I should ask

Those are the pics he provided in the ad. Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance!

The seller is a liar and breaks copyright to sell.

Well my thoughts is the guy is not to good. I emailed him few weeks ago When I noticed a members here chameleon was originally pictured for sale that he tried to sell it as. Lance's Lucifer Jr. I contacted lance and let him know his picture was being used to sell this chameleon.

Here is the original ad Mods can erase it If they want just figured Id post it to show everyone.

Hey Jack I actually did notice that picture in one of his ad's (he's got a few up there) and was somewhat confused by it since it was clearly not the chameleon he was selling. Definitely threw me off a little bit. Also I notice in that ad, which was posted only last month he's claiming it's 5 months and now he's saying 10, so that's a little curious

Definitely appreciate the info! You guys have any suggestions for some questions I should ask?

I suggest you take your money to trust worthy people that deserve it and forget that chameleon.

Few breeders id msg on here would be Tkilgour, or Todnedo even though you get a cage and set up you still be better off going with one of these guys. They have nice animals and are in Ohio_Or check out any of the sponsors if you already haven't. Top right is a link you can click.

Alright man thanks for the advice I really appreciate it, and will definitely check those out.

This cham was so enticing due to the price since for everything I'd be saving hundreds of dollars, but I was a little hesitant to pull the trigger because most times things that seem too good to be true are. I would much rather wait and save up for a cham I know is healthy and from a reputable breeder.

Out of curiosity I think I'm going to email the seller and see what he says about the cham

For some reason I'm not surprised to see that a scam artist is using craigslist to sell chameleons. I'd put your money with a breeder. At least then you know what you're getting.

Show up at their house with a friend. If everything is there, offer $180. If they balk, hand over $200. That is a steal if it is legit. Someone is going to buy it, might as well be someone who is smart enough to use this forum!!

Pic number 2 he looks half dead.

lol ya I decided to stay away from this, it just has bad news written all over it for me.

i've been doing some more research and found thechameleoncompany.com and although they aren't in ohio they have some of the best prices i've seen and seem to be a very reputable breeder

i'm checking out starter packages and was thinking i'd probably go with the ultimate setup kit on screameleons, anyone tried it or can recommend it? i know everyone says the habbamist isn't too great, but it'd be great for me since I'll be at school/work most days and wouldn't always be able to mist the cage myself

and i figure i can always upgrade to a mist king or something when i upgrade the cage

thoughts? thanks again to everyone you've all been amazingly helpful!

Ya if you can go there in person and see him it should be all good. Just don;t get pressured in to something.

I looked at the chameleon company myself because I was thinking about getting a panther in the summer, and Jannb says they are the last person she would consider going to. She says they are like a huge cham mill. She lives by them. chamalotchameleons.com on the other is a small breeder of ambilobe, ambanja, and veiled chameleons. They are really nice looking and start a $170 and go up with age. Jannb says the breeder of them is a friend of hers and is a very good breeder and very trustworthy. Not close either, but when you have a well known member saying good things about another breeder you know it must be good. :) Just some things to chew on and think about.

Jannb is a well known member, and has her opinions like everyone else

Both chamalotchameleons and chameleobcompany are well known and have healthy chams at decent prices.

Personally i got a female from jim at chameleon company who even held my female with a deposit before i could receive the cham, i wasnt ready and jim was nice to hold one for nearly two months. He is easy to work with and my female is very healthy

I heard also nothing but great things from chamolot too but never had the pleasure of doing business

Either are great among our firum sponsors and local breeders too pn the classifieds are great as well

Really.? She's really the only person I've talked to about them. Like I said, I've been searching for a good place to buy a panther.

Yeah and always do business with people you feel comfortable with,

I have no doubt you will find what you are looking with either one of the firum sponsors or the classifieds too

I admit Chameleon company posts more on fauna and kingsnake then at here, but there business is fine by my experience

I got a cham grom the kammers they are great

Also got a cham from Bruce at Chameleon paradise. Who is great to by my experience

I think its just what kind of cham you are looking for and mostly price matters to people

Ya I agree completely. Although saving money would be great I'd rather dish out a little bit more and feel comfortable with my purchase.

As far as the chamcompany stuff I found them after checking out some reviews from various people (some from this site) and they seemed like a great breeder. But I do appreciate hearing all points of view and experiences as it really will help me make a good final decision!

I'll definitely check out chamalot though thanks for the tip!

Take your time to choose your cham, Sometimes the cheapest is not the best.

Definitely agree. Just got a little excited about the price for everything since that is probably the biggest thing holding me back right now.

However the chams on chamalot and chameleon company seem to be very reasonable (looks like around 200 after shipping) and I've read good things about both breeders so I might end up going with one of them. After checking other places it seems like itd be around 350 all said and done and 150 bucks is a big deal to this poor grad student :)
