hello, I have a male ambanja about 7 months old, have had for about 4.5 months. Just wondering if anyone has any tips of how I could get him to want to come to me. I dont want to handle him often, just want to get a closer look at him once in a while. I havent handled him since mid June. Every time I try to he just moves away to a spot where I can't reach him in his cage. He is cup fed and won't eat out of my hand so offering a treat is not really an option. Here is a pic of him and his cage. The pic of him is an example of what I see because I can't get too close. Thanks!

My cham is not fond of me either. What I found that works for getting him out to weigh and such is using a stick. I place the stick under his body and he will pull up on it when I lift it.

Well, not handling him enough by now presents a problem when you want to. I have handled my panther from day one. I got him at 4 months and he is 9 months now.I handle him everyday a couple times a day. Alot of people frown on this but he is not stressed at all about it. If he was I would not do that to him. I take him out to free range and he is so cool. they have to get used to you. When you never handle them, of course they are going to freak out. Now at 7 months it may be difficult. But there still could be hope to tame him somewhat. I think the key is to do it often and from the start but you are beyond that point. So my suggestion is to open up the door and see if he will come out. Mine does not really like to be cornered or approached in the cage. I mean I can mess around in it to clean it and adjust things and he wont freak but I cant just grab him to come out so I started opening the door and he climbs on the top of it and sits there. I then slowwwly come up and put my hand up to him. He usually just walks right on it. If not I just put my hand under his chin and lift up and he climbs on that way too. You can start by maybe trying to get him climbing on a stick and trying to coax him out that way. Try taking him to a new surrounding like a free range and hopefully he will associate you taking him out with that. Dont know if this will help you or not but.... Good Luck!!!
