To get Cham out, or not...that is the question.

Hello guys. Debating right now to get my male veil out. Last weekend i opened the door, like i often do, and left it open. I heard some rustling under my couch a half hour later and found him heading for my blinds and window. That was the first time he ever took the initiative to escape. I thought it was cute and let him explore for a while. It was an absolute pain getting him back into the cage. When i tried to use the stick to get him to climb up, he puffed up, hissed, got all spotty, head butted and struck at the stick. I finally got him to climb up the stick a bit when he tried to run away but then he would just run off the stick and fall again. I had to get a pitcher from the kitchen to scoop him up and put him back in the cage.

This morning i opened the cage and even with me standing nearby he climbed down and tried to make an escape. I put a stick out near the ledge to get him to climb on it so i could take him to a perch i set up near the window. But he immediately puffed up. So i just closed the cage door and walked away and let him chill. I mean i want to let him out, but its such a pain to get him out and im afraid i will injure him getting him back in. Plus make him hate me a lot more in the process.

Maybe coax him on the stick with a treat. theory being eventually he'll learn it's a good thing to use the stick, even gets a treat for doing so.
