So I've been babysitting alot, 10 an hour, this weekend I made 120 bucks, I'm stuck between saving it for a car (14 at the moment), horror movie fx supplies like liquid latex, mortician's wax, etc, or chameleon stuff. Give me your insight oh great oldies of the forums! Or youngies, as long as you still know about money.

I always ask myself.....do I need it or do I WANT it? That usually decides for me when it comes to my finances!!! Hope this bit of wisdom helps coming from one of the "old timers" I guess you would consider 51 ancient!! lol!

it depends on a few things i guess... for example - if you get a car do you have to pay for insurance? do you have a job lined up? do you have anywhere to go for that matter? i know youre only 14 so its unlikely you can drive alone (as far as i know, it could be different where you live...maybe a school license?) so you have time to save up.

the make up effects stuff..do you have a photo shoot or movie coming up you can use this stuff for? there was a time where i was all about buying this kind of stuff and now i have wax and liquid latex and blood and stuff that ill probably never use. hah. i can tell you if you are using it for a production they should be providing it anyways.

the cham stuff.. what sort of stuff do you anticipate needing to buy? what are your parents ok with? would you just buy feeders or.. bulbs or could you get another chameleon maybe?

at this moment i think chameleon supplies are the most practical. i know you enjoy the special effect make up stuff though so that might be more fun?

this is a good place to start some sort of budget type thing as well, who says you have to save all of it? or have to spend all of it on one thing? why not spend 40 dollars on the cham, 40 dollars on make up and save 40 for a rainy day (maybe youll have an emergency or find something random you want)

mo money mo problems:p

For the cham I plan to get a female senegal, not to breed right away with Karma dont worry, just for incase someday I choose to do so, and for the FX 20+ people have offered to pay me to do their halloween stuff after they saw pics. My overly excited teacher sent the pics out to pretty much every class.

Save it and wait, wait, wait, wait. Sounds like you have other opportunities to add to your stash. With Christmas coming you will have the opportunity to ask for things that you might want/need. At 14 a car isn't high on your list since there are 2 years before you can even think about driving. Then, your parents might have something to say about insurance and gas. Things change and it is always good to have a stash sitting there waiting for the RIGHT opportunity.

I'm not old, or wise, and I don't have any advice...... 'cos financially speaking I am and always will be a washout :D........still, you could do worse than listen to some of this while you think about it........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkhX5W7JoWI
Maybe you need a lear jet? :) Maybe there's some irony in there somewhere ;).....
Very easy bass line though, even I can play it......how about a guitar?, lol

if you don't have a car guaranteed for you when you turn 16.....I would absolutely prioritize that

but then again I moved and my parents were divorced (ALOT, about 25 times by the time I was 25) so my car was like "my place" no matter where I was; I guess it had extra benefits to me in that sense

but a good point made, consider the RUNNING costs more than the STARTUP costs. Even if you save for a car (or cham) can you afford to pay their monthly maintenance costs (and in both cases you will need an "emergency mechanic/vet" fund as well !)

Already have a guitar, a blood red Ibanez. If you can't be a role model be a warning is what I always say. My family isn't doing christmas this year since we can't afford to spend alot of money.

i aim to live life in the fullest right now. yes, within reason... but live it up. youre 14, save for a car closer to getting your license. you can get cheap beaters for a grand...and when u work a part time job steady, youll make that money no time seeing as you have no bills

A beater? Ooh darn I'm an ATV or safari jeep kind of girl. Made 140 this week so far, in the chameleon department I'm stuck between saving for a red barred ambilobe panther male (I've always wanted one so badly!) or a female senegal for Karma...

Well, I suppose talk to your parents about it. See what they might be willing to do with your car situation and go from there. If they say they'll take care of it, or something, then you know that at least for right now (although given how the economy is, anything could happen in 2 years) you don't have to worry about it. And get something else you really want.
