The day is finally here (tomorrow) that I get to get my Chameleon. Just looking for advice as you know I will be excited to make everything just right for him. During the first few days, what should I be focusing on or looking out for? Thanks:D

First. No handling. At all. Let him/her get used to every thing first. Let him/her come out of the shipping cup in the cage on his own. Minimal stress is key.

Make sure he eats, drinks and has a normal poop. Make sure the lights are not too close so he wont get a burn. Also gutload and dust his feeders.

Thanks for the advice. I will do my best to follow it. I am getting my cham from Chameleons Northwest.

aww debbie im super jealous haha, i have to wait a week until i can get one! make sure to post some pics of your little guy when you can!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chameleon ownership! Everyone has already given you good advice so I will say congratulations and enjoy!

The best advice I can give is take a photo or two of your cage right now and post them here so we can make sure you are prepared.
We can then tell you what you might need to do to the cage.

Also make sure you have enough of different feeders.

Good luck and post plenty of photos of your new guy.

Well now I'm bummed. I have to wait to get my Chameleon. Had to cancel my trip to Chameleons Northwest. Hopefully make it there next Saturday. Well, now at least I will have more time to get prepared.

awww, sorry Debbie, but you are right, just gives you another week to get better prepared! I just got my chams 2 1/2 weeks ago, i thought i was prepared, but you seem to only notice things you hadnt done after they are here! Anyway, you are in for a treat:D

Ahh... the wait!

Congrats on getting your new Cham, I know it must be exciting don't worry I to had to postpone mines arrival was to come this week I was so excited but when the call came I was in the middle of painting a room and wanted to eb extra careful due to any residual fumes so I told them to hold off. Now "Wilson" is to come next week! I know the anticipation is Killer!!!
Good luck!

This is great advice....also Sandy and Elliot are great and will let you know anything you need to know.

I have 2 suggestions along with the above.....take lots of photos as they grow so quick and when you first get him give him plenty of time to adjust. I put an old towel around 1 or 2 sides of the cage as a visual barrier that has the most activity so that he has some privacy for a few days until he gets used to his new environment. He most likely will feel a little bit more secure especially with lots of curious eyes on him :)

Good luck with him....waiting on a new cham is like waiting for Christmas day!

LOl!

Tell me about it! I too am waiting on my boy and I am shocked that I have not burnt out my retnas staring at the empty cage!!! Wed this week is the big day! I think I'll have convulsions!!!:D

Wow, I'm not the only one waiting. I don't feel so alone now;). The reason why I don't have mine is my fault. Just unable to make the drive today. I will probably have them pick one out for me and ship it. Good luck to all those getting theirs soon.

chameleons northwest is terrific. i received my little sambava boy, desmond, from them in early july. you will not be disappointed. the waiting is so hard. is yours by any chance a patron baby? as far as advice, i can only echo the above comments: post a few enclosure pics and make certain you have a variety of feeders ready. he will be thirsty that first day, so misting is key. we are excited for you, too, so be sure to let us know when you get him.:)

Hello Joshua, I am getting a Veiled Chameleon from them. Wanted a panther, but decided on a Veiled instead. They have some very nice Veileds. And thanks to all who replyed. I will definately post pics.
