Uh, oh....

I'll definitely be getting one in the future, so we'll see how the rest of my household will deal with it! 🤣

Even as babies, not a single threat posture.

Black rats are some of the friendliest.

Well minor update, apparently the male thought his upgraded digs and new location were too much and he went off feed, I can't emphasize this enough a lot of snakes get really weirded out if they feel their enclosure is too large, so I've down graded him to a smaller cage and moved him back to his familiar spot.

Also missing one feeding isn't much to worry about, but experience has taught me just how weird some snakes could be. I had a six foot carpet python that I moved into a huge vision cage, she immediately went off feed and refused to eat for over 8 months, I put her back in her little shoebox and she started eating again, immediately, go figure.

Anyways here are the down graded yet hopefully more secure feeling digs.

I've heard this about snakes before, any thoughts to why that is? How would that relate to nature, which is huge?

Snakes seem to be tactile animals, they love the feeling of being surrounded by structure.

Empty 12 pack cases were some of the favorite hides for my very large snakes, despite having better options. You'd be amazed at just what they will squeeze themselves into.

As for the wild, I almost never see baby snakes, except in very confined spaces, it's only the seasoned adults that are over 2 to three years that I see confidently cruising about.

Well snakes will be snakes, it is very important to have lids and doors that latch and lock.

As this image demonstrates, snakes will test everything in the quest for the "perfect" hiding place.

I also suspect she's hungry as she always cruises the enclosure or sits right by the door when she wants food lol.

She's the fiancee for the male black rat snake as she is completely unrelated. All I have to do now is find and unrelated male for Sweet Pea and my breeding group of black rat snakes will be completed.

What a beauty----question: How can you tell black rat from gray rat? I know nothing about either and morphs/locals are even more confusing.
Thanks!!!
I have had corns, boas, pythons, and even some of the tiny earth and ring necks but they are easily identified.
Morphs don't stick to my brain.. Thanks again

Well as babies they are nearly indistinguishable from each other. They are of course two separate species.

But as adults they are quite obvious.

Here are the parents of my first black rats.

Even more stunning. Thanks for the info-- I add people to my mental list of who knows what and have a network if I have questions. Still looking for the leopard gecko morph expert.. I can look things up on line but knowing people who do reals stuff is much more interesting.
Thanks again!
