Unhappy cham

I've only had my cham for about a week and a half now and it was a surprise gift so i was unprepared to say the least but my gf had the best of intentions and knew id be able to figure things out. which i am..just slowly.

There have been some unsteady living conditions for my male veiled cham as far as enclosure, enclosure location, and handling. I know that he's stressed and hopefully he'll calm down soon.

My question is how do you know your cham is dangerously stressed? is there such a thing? how do i minimize stress in moving situations (ill be moving to a 6 month residence in a week). He's also extremely shy and gets darker when I'm around.

Note: he eats well, is misted, enclosure temp is approx 84 F, live pothos, artificial vines, calcium sup, dripper, heat and uv bulb, handled minimally, repti calc, crickets/super worms, (more variety in future) repti breeze 18x18x36, overnight temp 68-70 etc

Well I may not be as experienced as most of the keepers here , but I would leave the Chameleon alone for a few weeks aside from feeding them just let them acclimate to their surroundings and become relaxed. You said you have had him for 1 and half weeks and have handled him so he is stressed and should be left alone for few more weeks. Just feed him and admire him from outside the cage. A picture of the cage would help as well when you post a picture like that. Like for instance if you have no branches at the top of the cage for him to bask etc we could not tell.

Welcome to the forums. Do you have a small travel cage? How far will you be traveling? I keep veileds and have a blog that I pass out to new keepers. I'll attach it below and hopefully you will find is helpful.

It was only an hour trip but I had to stay for a few days. On the way there I just kept him in the enclosure and put it in the cab of the truck with me. He wasn't happy when we got ther. On the way back I put him in a small box which I covered. He seemed to do much better in that

When I said handled minimally I meant moving in and out of enclosure/travel box. I haven't been handling him for fun. I'll post a better pic next time but he's got a good amount of branches to bask on.
Thanks for the replies guys

You've only had him for about a week, so I wouldn't worry too much. They need time to acclimate, and that could take a little while. Just make sure he has the proper setup and he's being fed, and you should be fine.
