Unsafe plants?

I have seen a lot of pages that list safe plants for chams, but no list of plants that may be unsafe for them. I was looking at some viney type plants at a local store and they were just marked tropical. I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge of what might be bad for them.

The list of unsafe plants far exceeds the safe plant list. I like the classic pothos, ficus, hibiscus, and dwarf umbrella plants

when i find a plant that i think would look good, or work good for my enclousure, i write down the name and check:

And if the plant is not listed there as "safe" i will not use it.

A note for pothos, there is a very VERY close relative called philos, heart shaped pothos. this is deadly for your cham so pay very close attention when purchasing this plant.

Well, there are pros and cons to this subject. If you have a plant eater, then yes definetely stick to the "safe plant list". I have a panther and I use hostas on the bottom. Ferns would be okay too for a non-plant eater.

look closer they should have the scientific name somewhere on there. Then you can look it up online.

I do not reccommend the two lists cited above. The first one reproduced on the FLChams site, contains may plants that are not safe; _Passiflora_ and many ferns, in particular.

The second list is both a textual mess, and contains many plants I consider suspect, namely ferns and _Fatsia_

If you are referring to the "heart-leaved philodendron" (which is variously seen as _Philodendron cordatum_ _P. radiatum v. scandens_ _P. oxycardium_ and _P. hederaceum_) it is not considered dangerously poisonous. It is usually considered too fragile to be used in any chameleon environment, except perhaps, for the habitat of a very dwarf species. It is often cited as a source of contact dermititis (a rash) in humans, as is pothos. I don't worry about either one.
