Hey Guys I recently bought a senegal chameleon from the pet store. and they told me a little and you guys told me alot more and i would like to thank all of you guys. I started with a small 5.5 gallon aquarium with a branch in it.(according to pet store that was all i needed.) But i know have a cage that suits his needs and my space. I got him the reptisun 5.0 tube instead of compact! also. I am using a 60 watt house hold bulb for heat and a mini dripper. I got Pics of him also. The Humidity Stays Around 50-62% without spraying and goes to 75-80% with spraying. I found a Aquarium topper at a store that makes it a half and half. He seems to like it very well.

Okay, for a new chameleon owner who bought a chameleon from a pet store with bad information, I'd say you're doing great. I don't think I've ever seen a chameleon setup with a glass aquarium and a cage top. I don't really see any reason why it wouldn't work out ok. You might consider getting a full screen cage for when your chameleon gets bigger.

My initial thinking is that it would be a pain in the butt dealing with water drainage in the aquarium from the misting and the water drip.

A few points of advice:

1) Get rid of the bark chip substrate. You don't need any. The chameleon will stay up on the branches all the time anyways. It will cause more harm than good if he accidentally eats some substrate with a stray insect.

2) It looks like you have mostly fake vines right now. Try getting a real plant or two in there. Real plants keep water beaded on them better than plastic leaves, they're easier for your cham to drink off of. Plus they do better for keeping the humidity up.

3) It looks like you have a water dish in there. As long as that's in there to catch the drip, you're okay. Don't expect your chameleon to drink out of it though. He needs to be misted regularly in addition to the drip.

For my adult senegal I put shallow plastic containers to cath the drips. This way it can be soaked up with paper towels. It also catched waste and is easily wiped up. The other baby senegal I put a live plant in and the dripper is right above it.

the basking lamp should be from above.


he looks overall healthy.

as others have said, it is wise to remove the wood chips.

and its still a good idea to get a few medium/small potted plants that reach to the top.

use paper towels on the bottom

and more climbing branches/vines won't hurt.

Yes i have removed the chips from the bottom and got more vines. He seems very happy with it.
