Using Bamboo from Backyard?

Anyone ever cut some bamboo off a live plant, and used it in their enclosure?

I have a huge patch of bamboo in my backyard, about 6' tall and about 1/4" to 1/2" thick, seems like it would work great for pathways?

The bamboo is green as it grows, but when it dries it out it turns brownish and harder, should I let it dry out first, or let it dry out as it goes?

Do I need to bake the branches, or just clean them with hot water/soap?

People use grass bamboo all the time. Dry it. And bake it . You can use a 1-10 bleach and water mix. I wouldn't use them when their green until baked. Living in ohio, I take broken non sappy dried branches. Bake them at 400 for 30 mins, then sand them down and wash them off with water. Then place them in..... for yours id bake em for 30 mins at 400, then wash them (bleach if it makes you feel more comphortable) then place em in once cooled. Rember never use lucky bamboo....(like the kind in the decorative pots) for it is piosonus.

What is there to be afraid of on bamboo?

I use bamboo all the time - no baking or bleaching. I like black bamboo; just trim carefully so there are no sharp points left.

That stuff grows out here? Goodness if that's the case I'd love to come by and help you cut that down! I have a lot of little geckos and chameleons that would love some!
