UVB Light 5.0 or 10.0?

I'm getting a Veiled Chameleon and i'm getting ready to order a UVB. Do I need a 5.0 or 10.0?

Also what size lightbulb should I use for heating?
 
It depends.

Babies need a 5.0, either a tube or a coil UVB bulb. Adults need a 10.0 TUBE (recommended) UVB.

Heating, usually a 60-70 watt house bulb works for around 80-95 degrees if you place it correctly.

I have a 24 inch light fixture for a UVB tube. The guy i'm getting is about 5 months old. So would you recommend 5 or 10?

Get a 5.0 24" tube. You might think it will be too big for the fixture, but it's not. Just get it labled as the same size as the fixture and it will still fit.

Once he is around a year old get a 10.0. It will be around the time to replace the tube around then anyway.
 
I don't know, I think you could do either at this age. What size is his cage going to be? If you're going directly into a 3' or 4' tall cage you could probably just get the 10.0 now.

I was thinking since it would be a smaller cage, it would be better just to do the 5.0, but you might be right.

Not many people try and use huge adult cages for babies though.

He's going into a 17x17x24 cage. But I am in the process of building him a new 24x24x48 one. He'll be moved into that within 1 or 2 months.
 
If he's going to be in the 24" cage for a while then probably get the 5.0, and then upgrade in 6 months when it's time to get a new one.
 
so for a 2'x2'x4' cage, mesh top, would you go a T5 HO 24" Arcadia 6% or the Arcadia 12%? I was thinking the 6% would be best.
 
You can get a 18" GE light fixture at Home Depot for 12.96, the 18" reptizoom UVB bulb cost me 32.50 at pet smart. They wanted 41.00 for their exoterra light fixture, no way dude. I bought the bulb there then hopped over to the depot bought the light fixture, popped off the plastic thingy, put it vertical over my cage.
 
If there is one thing you shouldn't skimp on its the UVB light. The ballast, like someone said, can come from home depot or wherever, but get a good bulb. Its so important to your cham to get the UVB it needs for Calcium metabolism.

Have you looked on Craigslist for lighting? I see good deals every day.
