How old are they? 1000 seems like a lot!
1000 crickets divided by 2 chams is 500 crickets a week and 70+ crickets a day each!

if thats the case, as sancho said, you are WAY over feeding them.. 20 a day max for babies... depending on age they will slow down in the amount the eat.
maybe you need to up the size of your feeders if they can eat that many super small crickets.
roaches are a great alternate feeder to crickets, and they breed easily

a thousand is way too many. My veiled is an adult and I only go through about 36 crickets a week

Sounds like you need to feed larger crickets will take less to fill there guts. But how old are these guys that will help us all guage what size crickets you should be feeding.

i have a 3 week old cham, and he only eats about 10-15 crickets a day 500 seems just a little too much

if you have an all screen cage, a great food, universaly loved by almost all chams, young and old alike, is cultured (not wild caught) house flies and blue bottle flies,( blue bottles are about twice the size of regular house flies they are the fat greenish looking ones) they are cheap (potentially cheaper than crickets) are easy to handle (just put adult flies in the fridge for about 10 min and they become almost motionless for several min)(plus they are easy to dust when imobilized) are much easier and quicker to breed than crickets and if they escape they are less likey to breed and easier to get rid of than crickets. only put in what your cham is likely to consume in an hr or two otherwise you will have flies escaping when you open the door. dont worry about size, my neonates are only 2g. and they handle bb just fine. but one good thing to keep in mind is, all chams need a varied diet of feeders, granted some feeders make a better staple than others, but if you want a thriving cham, it is not good to feed any cham an endless supply of any one type of feeder. . if you are looking to supplement your crickets and not replace them, then house or bb flies are one of the easiest and cheapest places to start. a good place to get cheap flies or fly breeding supplies is http://www.mantisplace.com you can get a starter culture of 250 for less than $10 delivered, you think your chams go nuts for crickets , try house or bb flies, it will draw their interest like few other feeders do. (plus its fun to watch your chams head roll around in circles while they try to zero in on them)

hell, when my veileds were babies, I'd only feed them like 20-25 crickets/superworms a week!!
