most people prefer males because they have a better display of colors, however females are good looking too in there own right, they just take some appreciation that most people don't have the patience for, I'd get a male
I got a Female as my first not knowing a whole lot about them, wouldn't have gotten her if I knew of the whole egg bound thing, but what can ya do?
My Male though seems a bit more agressive then my female. When you try to take him out of the cage (Once in a great while) He hisses and tries to bite you.
Thanks for asking chercham! Most newbies don't think to ask and think that their care will be the same, male or female. Males are much easier to take care of as females have seperate nutritional requirements. Do you know how to tell the difference between a male and female? You might think about ordering one online at one of the several reputable breeders. You'll get a healthier chameleon than one purchased at a petco or petsmart. These have usually not been taken care of well at all. Now's the time to get your cage set up and ask all your questions. Everybody on here will help you as much as they can.

And Chercham, check out Brad's website, it is very in depth about requirements and care.
As for which one, a male is more visually impressive, but they're also generally more aggressive and larger. But if you end up like most of us on this site, it won't be long before you have at least one of each!
