Veiled Chameleon Female Weight Increase

Hello again, I have yet another question about my veiled chameleons weight. I will just give her weight for the last 6 weeks.
2/9 85 grams not ounces
2/16 94 grams
2/23 94 grams
3/3 96 grams
3/9 109 grams
3/17 127 grams

Is that normal for the big jumps in her weight like that or do i need to be getting an egg laying box ready. she has not been with any males but I did bring a male in to the house about the time of the first big jump, but she can not see him. I have read that the max weight for a female is 119 grams on the large size.

Thanks for the help

you should have a laying bin ready and in her cage 24/7 after they reach about 4-6 months of age because they can start producing eggs anytime after that. they do not need to mate to produce eggs, they do it all on their own! i would definitely get a laying bin in there even if she doesnt have eggs because that way when she does produce eggs it is there for her :) this is a link for setting up a laying bin https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/jannb/345-egg-laying-laying-bin.html

as for the max weight for a female, im not sure!!!

How much do you feed because that's a huge jump. I would check her rear end is there a bulge around that area. With what I noticed is females usually go very low down in the cage sign looking for the place to lay eggs. Doesn't matter with a male they lay infertlized eggs most female reptiles do this.
12"by12" pot with moist play sand I heard is a good laying bin for them. I would cut back on the food intake and check you temps should be low 80's. will help with egg development in the future. Make sure after she lays you give plenty of calcium maybe twice as much your doing now she will need it.

i think she may be carrying infertile eggs because of how much she has gained.. the blog that i gave a link to above goes thru the steps of making a laying bin as well as how to tell if they are carrying eggs and how to care for them after they lay the eggs. a large weight gain is one of the signs! i would get a proper laying bin in there as soon as possible :)

When my little girl was developing her 1st & 2nd clutch (no male needed - they'll develop eggs with or without fertilization) she weighed 147g's. after laying she was back down to 92g's. If she's packing on the pounds that quickly I'd say you need to get the laying bin ready for her!

Thanks everyone. I love her colors right now, all her black spots turn a light blue. Wish her color would stay like that all the time. Thanks again
