Hi I am a new chameleon owner and purchased a female about a 3 weeks ago. She eats well, is always looking and walking around cage. Well, on Saturday I woke up from a nap, looked in her cage, and there were 35 eggs in it! Right now she is in a temp aquarium, I have been setting up a 260 reptarium as my first truly large enclosure, I got it from LLL Reptile today. I already had a tin with sand, one of those ones you buy at the dollar store for stuff in the oven, but it is too large for what she is in now, so I was just kind of waiting for the move. I looked up pregnant females and they did not look like her at all, she did not fit the profile in both the few pics I found and the extensive research on different sites. I noticed her color changing frequently but no signs of bulging, as my pet store is knowledgable and let me know that she was about 8 months old and would lay gravid eggs. She laid 35 smooth soft gravid eggs, all nicely intact, they were a bit off white and well formed. They resembled little jellybeans. She laid them right on the aquarium floor! Now my main question is, could she have more to lay because she did not dig and burrow like other females? She looked a little worn that day but she still ate worms. I waited about an hour after she left the corner to go in, and she eat normally. She drank some water but then looked pooped out. She's doing good overall, color more steady, and now she does appear smaller in the shall we say midriff area. I really want to take good care of her, I hope I didn't realize because I don't really know what she normally looks like. I just don't know exactly what to do. Any advice would be great. This seems like an awesome site w/ good info and nice people and I would like to get actively involved.

First off you mean to say fertile eggs instead of gravid eggs, and yes she could very well have more inside her without a proper place to lay them...make sure its over 6 inches deep and has about 2-3 inches of space around her all the way when she is inside of it...are you incubating the ones she laid or don't want to get into that...is your large setup ready to go now? If so put the egg laying bucket or whatever in there and hopefully she will finish the job.... the eggs may not be fertile unless she mated at the petshop or wherever you got her from but you never know good luck and im sure the folks here can help you out we will also need pictures of your enclosure and others to help you.... good luck
