I've been wanting another panther and my girlfriend said she really likes the blues and would like that to be our next one. So just recently we came across a really nice nose be hold back we couldn't pass up. i ordered him, overnight delivery due for this morning. Well fedex screwed up and long story short he won't be arriving until tomorrow and is stuck in a box. I am so incredibly pissed about this, went off on two fed employees already, this is the second time they've screwed up boxes in a month for me. To me that is robbery. I feel so bad for this chameleon stuck in a box and i'm very worried, do you guys think he'll be alright by tomorrow morning? I'm going to get food and water ready for him asap, should i give him a shower or would that be too stressful? Any thoughts i'd appreciate, thanks.

I know that there is a stigma on shipping and how harsh it can be. But we must remember that all of the chameleons we have originated from imported animals if they are not fresh imports themselves. They endure some nasty shipping conditions/durations.

2 days is nothing in the scheme of things. Especially for a healthy CBB animal. The only issue is that paying for a service that you don't get can piss you off. Is your animal in a hub that is close to you? Sometimes they won't give you that info and your package could literally be 15 minutes away in another hub. Not sure if you asked that or not.

I had some chameleons shipped and the shipper only wanted to send them to a hub, not residential. So I went to pick them up and the guy there had given my package to another person because it resembled the same box that his plates came in. It took hours to locate the man that signed for the package and I had to drive two hours to go pick it up myself. The guy was really nice and talked to me on the phone. He even went so far as to take the chameleons out and water them. He was really nice but the FedEx people were worthless. They just kept telling me to calm down. I hadn't even raised my voice. I am 6'5" so people sense a tone I suppose. LOL Just wanted to share that with you so you know that you are not alone.

So, as a summary, the chameleon will be fine but I completely understand being pissed about the situation.

As Joel said, the chameleon will be fine. This is a big nothing for them. I have a now adult quad (maybe 80g now) that was imported at a tiny 4.4 baby--that is the smallest I will send off my healthy captive born and bred babies!--who spent 6 days in a shipping crate coming from Equatorial Guinea in Africa through Turkey to someplace in Europe, Miami and finally the importers.

I have had shipments occasionally mixed up and have had the broker get involved.

Which shipping broker did the seller use?

The broker who the seller shipped the animal through (Ship Your Reptiles or Reptiles Express are the two I know of) has control over the shipment, not you nor the seller. Have the seller call the broker and have the broker trace the box down. If the animal is in a ship center/sorting center near you, they can probably forward it to a ship center for you to pick up. See what can be done. IMPORTANT: Don't do this yourself as it just complicates everything. The broker has contacts that you don't have and have a special desk they can call, not just a generic hotline.

Ship You Reptiles has been terrific when I've had problems. None of my problems have ever resulted in anything bad happening to any animals, so don't worry.

As far as watering him, you have an automatic mister right? I swear we have talked about it *frowns* anyway, if you do, just let it run for a bit longer than normal, your other chameleons will benefit and a good 15-20 mist won't stress him in the shower and he should be able to drink plenty.

I remember doing 2 day shipping for adult dubia, they came 6 days later. I had 3 sets of babies upon arrival...

That's odd o_O that must have been super horrible shipping, like during holidays? I always refuse to ship on most holidays, November Thanksgiving time and December Christmas time, it isn't safe for live creatures.

Yea it got lost from ny to ohio, ended up in wrong ohio, sent to pa for resort, then back to ohio. None died so i was happy. They were very hungry when they came out of the box :)

Hey thanks everyone, i talked to the breeders and they assured me he'd be alright. They said they pack and prepare them for this. I'll just make sure to get him lots of water.

Btw i'm about the same height as you @jpowell86 ... i wasn't too calm though

Blue in an animal is my favorite color. Nosy bes gotta be my fav in Chams seems like my youngster is a female so no blue for me:( . I'd like lots of pics if it. Good luck

If they packed him right and he is in a deli cup, he won't even be dehydrated. I would give him several 10 minute misting sessions for his first two days, but I am sure that is over kill.

Yeah i mean it's hard to beat the blues, such an unreal color to see on any animal. He is supposed to have yellow/gold underbody and on his eye turrets. I got him from the kammers, can't wait to see him tomorrow!

Starting him out in a 18x36 but quickly moving him either to my dragon strand or another free range, not sure which yet.

You're 6'5"! Is that why you keep melleri? They must look like normal sized chams when you hold them. Normal chams must look like pygmies. I guess everything is bigger in Texas.

LOL. I do get a better understanding of their size when someone else holds them.

@Nursemaia Remember the story of Joel dancing around the importer's holding that little chameleon over his head at arm's length so I couldn't snatch it away? Now you know why it was so funny to see. I would have needed a ladder to get near that little chameleon!

I do remember that story. That's probably an 8' reach or more. Knowing how tall he is now makes it all that much more funny. Giant man playing keep away with a cham.
You have counties bigger than my state. In one spot we're only 11 miles wide.
I swear, If either one of you ever come up to the east coast I'd have to meet you.

An 8 foot reach would be insane, would be the best athlete in the world... lol

Just got my guy though! All's good so far, gave him some hardcore misting. I really can't believe how bright he is, aquamarine background, powder blue center, and yellow underbody.... when i got my ambanja he was dark brown for a week!

So glad your little guys landed ok and that he doesn't seem too stressed by his endeavor. XD
