very cold dry climate

Hey I have an adult female veiled cham I have a glass terrerrium that's is very large but rectangular. I built an attatchment to one half to raise the overall height to about 40 in in toatal. I use a coco substraigt that is practically a powder I compact it with a small tamper and spot clean it it still retains moisture but compacting it makes it less of a sponge like material and actually gains a fair bit of tensile strength

I live in a very cold dry rural area of Canada during winter it easily reaches negative 30-40 Celsius about - 22 Fahrenheit my home is old and so it's difficult to maintain a steady temperature with the interior heating leading me to have to use an external heat source just to keep my room above 20 (60)degrees my one thermometer in the basking area is a steady 36c about 98 f. on the bottom other side of the tank I'd like it to still be comfortable but i have a hard time keeping it steadily warm it get cold at night away from my night light below 20
Now I have a ficus and a cornflower plant. As well as some collard green growing in the tank but I still have a he'll of a time keeping steady warmth and humidity. Any help tips would be appreciated

Hi there, where do you live ?
As you can see, I live in a cold part of the country as well.
I have mistking and I am very satisfied with it!I have one basking lamp for my panther and a uvb. My enclosure is mesh, although I covered 3 sides with a plastic sheet.
Your temps sound good, in fact it is a glass terrarium so keeps the heat better , just make sure it has proper ventillation!

Oh and I don't recommend any substrate for the bottom!

jemen have seen to manage temps about 0 c just some degrees avo, you can use a ceramic heater, no infra red stuff, it disturbs them

I live in Saskatchewan and am also struggling with the temps. My guy is forever dark brown trying to soak the heat. I have a large mesh unit. I can get the basking area to maintain temps but the rest sits too low. I have considered adding another heat bulb to the unit? What are your thoughts on this? Or would it be better to use a clear acrylic to close off some sides?

some ideas:
-heat the room the chameleon is in to the temp you want the lower cage, so that the basking lamp is only providing the hot spot
- youre right not to use a screen cage (is the addition also glass?) as something with more solid sides (or cover the back and sides of a screen cage) will better retain heat and humidity in the enclosure.
- humidifier for the house or the room, or an automated mister if your home is really dry
- having fish tanks in a room makes a considerable difference to the humidity. if not into fish, just a warm bucket of water with a bubbler does the trick :)
