How do you transport your chameleons?
For those of you who don't want a relatively long winded post and just want to go straight to answering the questions, they are:
1) How do you take your chameleon to the vet (just leave them on your shoulder, put them in a box…?)
2) Have you ever taken your chameleon with you somewhere, other than just outside for natural sunlight for whatever reason, other than the veterinarian.
My 9 month old jackson chameleon is doing quite well in my opinion, but has never been to a veterinarian. There is one very close to my house, 2 minutes or less if I drive, but I do not think that they would care for my chameleon. My chameleon is just one of those chameleons who is usually quite mellow, and never ever aggressive. I am NOT saying that this means he never gets stressed. But he can tolerate handling very well. In fact often times, he will just climb onto my hand or shoulder without luring him at all and when I try to put him back, he just refuses and walks on my arm and to my shoulder. He'll just stay there and refuses to go back inside - sometimes I even need to lure him back in with water, crickets or sort of just trick him onto grabbing a branch and physically (yet gently) putting him on a vine or branch. Sometimes he just wants to get out of his enclosure, particularly in the morning and afternoon. From 4 PM on, he tends to just want to stay inside his enclosure, but there are exceptions. My point is that I've seen several people on here who have arguably "social" chameleons or at the very least highly tolerant and tame ones that seem to actually enjoy being handled, as they're associated it with food and going outside for natural sunlight. I was wondering, with chameleons possessing this sort of personality, if their owners take them to a veterinarian by just carrying them over there as opposed to keeping them in a box most of the time. If I ever take, Tricky (my chameleon) to the veterinarian, depending on how far away it is, I actually think he'd be fine to just stay on my hand or shoulder most of the time. I'd bring the box he was shipped in and a stick just to be safe, but he wouldn't get stressed unless people were actually touching him.
Whenever I go to Petsmart, I tend to bring the dog or bearded dragon. Petsmart is also a 4 - 5 minute drive or less. If for some rare occurring reason, I needed to bring, Tricky I think that I could and he'd do quite well. Especially if I had someone else with me to hold him if he was feeling adventurous in the car.
EDIT: I also want to stress that I intend for this to be a hypothetical scenario, and interpreted as such. I also have no plans to go to a veterinarian right now. Please don't think that I actually WANT to take, Tricky with me every time I go to a store or out somewhere. But I've read of some doing so with no problems (to and from a store, quick errand).
SECOND EDIT: Moved to Health Clinic even though this is actually intended to be a general discussion mainly involving how people transport their chameleons from place to place and where they take them. It just so happens that most people only transport their chameleons when going to the veterinarian, hence the title…just saying.
