Volunteering in Madagascar

I wondered if many of you have experience travelling or better still, woring in Madagascar, on a chameleon-orientated trip?

As a teacher I have the advantage of long summer breaks, and would love to be able to get involved with something worthwhile, while learning more about Chams in their natural habitat.

I'm well travelled and happy to 'rough it' while volunteering - any pointers would be gratefully received.

I have never heard of anyone doing this, but it sounds like a great idea.

I'm thinking scientific research type - counting, collecting, data gathering
conservation etc

Altho teaching is my real skill I'd be on holiday from teaching and so some wildlife conservation would be better!

There's this thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/madagascar-trip-feeler-5358/

And a couple "work" options I know of too. The first is the Blue Chameleon Ventures tour. I have a problem with it, because you are expected to work with/for them, collecting data for Gary Ferguson's project. This sounds like fun but, at the same time, their trip is focusing on the northern parts of the island and costs 3-4 thousand dollars more than a trip that would see much more of the country.

If you're an anthropology student of any kind, there is a field school and research projects in Madagascar through Stony Brook University. http://www.sunysb.edu/studyabroad/madagascar.shtml
