Friendly Grasshopper
just putting this out there as the nice weather returns to most of our continent, and many will be venturing outside with their chams or simply have windows open.
CHAMELEONS ARE VERY VERY SNEEKY, and they can and will get away if left unattended, i know we all love our cham and do our best, but there seem to be alot of threads about lost chams and i can only imagine as summer comes it will get worse, not refering to any one person there are tons of threads from the past..
i as well as everyone else here know that for the most part chams are quite slow and often dont wander far....
this is not always the case and as well they are very persistant & sneeky lil guys, even left unattended for a min, could spell disaster..
beyond wandering away you have to think about predators as well, birds can and will swoop down outta know where and scoop up your chams and cats are great hunters. ( you might not even know your cahm is being stalked, and 1 scratch or bite will most likely be disastarus.)
i am not telling anyone what to do i just want to get people thinking so that afew more chams will have a safe and happy summer..

JMO.. and agiain not directed at anyone

No kidding! When I took N'kulu out for his first sunning, the Robins dive bombed me twice so I had to take him inside >_< I didn't see a nest anywhere, so I think they wanted a baby cham snack!

I totally agree and would also like to add to be careful of the heat. Every summer I read on here of many cham deaths due to the heat. A cage will heat up fast and get really hot. I often see pictures of some of the ones that perished on the side of the home page where they pop up and it always makes me sad they are gone. Also be careful of the wind. I've also read thread where the wind blew the cage over and injured and killed the cham.

You never can be too careful with these guys.

just kinda bumping this hopeing some new member might read it and help avoid this prob, as i see its starting to happen... as always im not pointing any fingers just want to get awareness out there so maybe we get a few less sad stories

I am def aware of the mocking birds we have around our house....... when I had my first batch of crickets I thought..... maybe theyd like to breathe some fresh air so I stuck them outside without a lid XD so I cleaned a little while they were outside and I look through the screen door and notice them being picked out oe by one by the mocking bird I was like noooo!!!!!! haha If I bring my either of my Chameleons outside it will be right next to me. yeah there has been alot of missing chameleon posts lately

Damn right mate, and true from Jann too - so bump! I've got three youngsters to take out in the garden tomorrow so I've got backup arranged, but I'm still glad of a reminder - not that the sneeky little blighters don't remind me often enough as it is............

We sometimes leave our back door open so our 4 dogs can go in and out and this makes Ozzies habitat get hotter with the 100 degrees and the humidity is so high so when I see he has his mouth open I turn his heat light off.

I have taken him outside but just for a second and never leave him out there without me and he stays on me.

Good thread :)

BTTT......
Thanks for the reminder!!!!! We all love getting them outside but must remember to never let our guard down!
They are counting on us!!!!!! ;)

My female Verru made it out of her enclosure, across the room to the open sliding glass door, and squeezed between the screen and glass. Thank god my spidey-senses were tingling, cause she was about to be out of there! I open a window now if they need it, haha. Great thread!

i have small birds that bug one of my chams and i put him on my mango tree to free roam( its not very big) and he seems like he is hunting the birds that bug him at his cage and i thought that was funny cause the birds have to watch out for my tamatave :)
