water

Whether you need to use bottled or filtered water is something that gets debated here often. I think you need to look into what's in your local water to determine if you need to avoid using tap water. If you decide tap water isn't good, then there are lots of options. You can purchase water that has been cleaned of contaminants. That can be bought in bottles or you can provide your own container and purchase clean water from various stores. You can purchase systems to purify the water that comes from your tap.

What you do depends on your situation.

I use reptisafe in the tap water to clean it of contaminants, you can purchase it at most pet stores and a little bit goes a long way:) the water in my area is hard.

A great product that is really cheap. I use this with any water I use for my chams.

can you use bottled water for a chameleon.

really....seriously???

i dont give my chams anything i wouldnt drink..(or eat, if i needed to survive, i guess)lol

ive always only given my chams ro water or at least go to an aqua fina machine its 25 cents for a gallon..

lol

why would this not be a serious question. i just bought a misting system.so i did not fell like measuring out the whole bucket for repti safe so that is why i was asking. and i just found a better solution water any ways.

i dont add anything to my water..and to be honest in the long run, if you are using a mist king, use filtered water..the build up of crap in the nozzels are going to fustraite you if you use tap with repti safe in it..go to a vons or ralphs and fill a couple of old gallon jugs keep them in your closet (one dollar gives you 4 gallons) unless they are charging a whopping 35 cents where you are..

There should be no contaminants in tap water, just disinfectant, chlorine. I think what you are saying is the total dissolved solids.ie calcium and sediment.

Fluoride is something you might consider a "contaminate". Whether you think your chameleon can tolerate it is your decision.

Fluoridated water contains 0.5 to 1.0 ppm fluoride, usually as the sodium salt. Fluoride has a narrow safety range. In mammals, deficiency is associated with dental caries and with osteoporosis in the aged. Fluoride toxicity (fluorosis), due to accumulation from long-term consumption of high levels, is associated with deformed bones and soft, mottled, and irregularly worn teeth. Animals fed diets deficient in protein, calcium, and vitamin C are more susceptible to fluorosis. Water sources containing high levels of fluoride are found in parts of Arkansas, California, South Carolina, and Texas and may be a risk for fluorosis. In reptiles, fluorosis can mimic the signs of metabolic bone disease (MBD).

I have yet to see any amount over .4mg in the agency I work at. You are correct that is an individual determination and it does vary from water supply to water supply. I only let my guys have access to it in the shower otherwise it's distilled. Water agencies do not want to have anything to do with it but we are required to.

San Diego just started supplementing water with Fluoride. According to the City's website, the level is .7mg/ltr which I guess is equivalent to .7ppm. I started distilling water when they started supplementing.
