waterfall

so i have a waterfall for my chameleon and i know they aren't good but is it okay to keep in there? because i do not have many plants for him to drink off of and he hasn't had water in a while? also if there is a bit of coco fiber in there is that okay?

It would be to your Chams advantage for you to get more plants whether they are fake or real. One for the very fact that they need plenty of places to climb and hide. You might considered getting a bottled dripper system and let the water drip down. They will usually go up to the dripper and drink the water droplets that form. There is enough evidence to suggest that the waterfall is a health hazard to your Cham and shouldn't be present in the cage. I hope this helps.

What do you mean by "he hasn't had water in a while"??? If your cage isn't set up for a cham, the waterfall won't make up for that. Your cham may not learn to drink out of the waterfall even if is IS kept perfectly clean. Most chams don't. If you don't have enough plants, get them! Even fakes will provide surfaces that hold water droplets for him to lick.

Sounds as if you should post pics of your setup and describe your husbandry in detail so we can help you keep your cham healthy. Please answer the questions below so we can help you improve life for your chameleon.

I would recommend only real plants since you have a male veiled chameleons and they tend to chomp on leaves. You don't want it to eat a fake leaf....it will likely cause an impaction.

If you answer the questions in the how to ask for help thread near the top of the health forum we can check out your husbandry. It would be helpful to post some photos of your cage and chameleon too.

Also if you are using coco fiber as a substrate I would get rid of it and go with a bare bottom.

The waterfalls are for us not them. If you really like it, but it means rinsing daily, and weekly disinfect. Really more hassle than its worth. You could use it dry if you like the look.

And, if you like the sound, put it in a waterproof container right outside the cage.
