waterfall

so i have a waterfall but i also mist and use ice cubes to water the plants, i know many of you worry that Leonard will get sick (which i cant thank you enough for caring about my little guy). so i have proof that just because some of us have waterfalls doesn't mean that they will always drink out of the waterfall. even though some times they do.

still clean my waterfall every 2-3 days:) it still has two different filters one around the pump that is sponge and another that is in the base.

but i am thinking of taking it out.....

I absolutely love your prof picture, who took that are they professional? how did you get a baby cham to climb on you so trustingly?

Ok. the reason ppl dont like waterfalls is not bc chams wont drink from them, but is because they can breed bacteria and the cham can fall in and drown.

are you talking about the aviatar? that is my boyfriends shoulder, i am a graphic designer. and he likes to climb to the highest part of the person, plus it was cleaning day. as in i needed to clean his cage,i clean it every two to three days and i deep clean it once a week and he gets everything taken out so i needed someone to watch him. so my boyfriend took care of him and i took a picture and edited it.

Nice job with the picture on your bf shoulder, and the video's are cute. I never found him in the second one. I almost think you like Leonard.:D

The male quad I free range is named Lenny.

waterfallzzzz!!!!!

i was planning on making a waterfall but when i got around to it it was to messy and well i actually liked it but it kept sprinkling water out of the cage , i guess it was to small, and i kept reading that it coused bacteria and mold and could leed to some eye problems and skin problems so i just stopped. but i would like to make another waterfall now that i have a way bigger cage and i would have to change and cleen the water evry other day:eek:

So waterfalls are a no go?? Anyone know how long a 1gal dripper will run?? And how often should I should let it run??

Its best if they are not present in the enclosure unless you're going to be cleaning them THOROUGHLY on a day to day basis. I know they look awesome and it'd be nice to use them, but its more of a pain than its worth.

You should have a dripper going all day, or at least most of the day. A 1 gallon dripper will run depending on how large the hole is.

It would be cool to make one that used fresh water instead of recycling it over and over. But, it would be a real waste.

there are some great filtered ones out there. mine has two filters that are custom but i wonder if many people used filters.

Has anyone ever considered having the waterfall reservoir under the cage? Bare with me here...so there are these fountains that are waterfalls that drop straight down like on a mirror or some rocks and they fall into a bottom reservoir I mean you would have to do some serious construction but you could definitely set something up that takes up the back of the cage and works without endangering your Cham(yea I'm a dreamer) but when my boy gets his big boy cage I'll make it work just wait a couple months.

wow! i never even thought of that! tht would be an awsome idea!u could make the bottome of the cage be screen and let and that would filter alot of droppings..i would definetly try that:D

Even thought the screen would catch the droppings, I would be wary of water that had washed over the droppings. There are a lot of nasty things in chameleon poop. You might conceivably be able to use that water for plants in your garden, but I wouldn't use it for any plants that might be eaten because, again...lots of nasty things.

However, if you could pull it off, having a waterfall that collects under the cage is a solution to most, if not all, of the objections I've seen people bring up.
